I'm pulling out of my garage driveway which is where I rent, there's a big curb blocking the visibility of the entrance to the sidewalk thats at the bottom of a steep hill..
I roll out slow always because it's too hard to see and I don't want to hit anybody who is walking What happens? 15 year old kid on a red bmx bike going probably about 50 kmph (35?) down the hill, ON THE SIDEWALK He managed to dodge my dodge (ha, that was lame) and flipped over his own bike and rolled over a few times on the street (busy road, lucky he wasn't killed) Kid had NO HELMET and he hit his head, he was pretty dazed, had a SERIOUS gash on his right ankle, like, you could look inside past the flesh kind of deep. And misc cuts all over. A lady stopped (who almost hit him upon him flinging himself into the roadway) and she actually knew the poor kid, so she asked him if he had his health card on him to goto the hospital with, he said no, so he went to his mothers house to get his mom and his card and head to the hospital, so he needs a lift to the hospital! So I obviously volunteer, and I said "I'll lock your bike in my garage don't worry about it", so I run the bike up to the back of the property and put it inside the garage.. I notice while putting it in the garage, this bike weighs all of like 9 lbs, and it doesn't have brakes. The bike is entirely aluminum and has the bare necessities to roll and pedal, that's it. UNBELIEVEABLE 15 years old, going 50 down a ******* hill, on the SIDEWALK, NO HELMET, NO ******* BRAKES! Anyways I took him up to the hospital and they are treating him right now, I left my contact info to come pick up his bike, and I went down to the police station immediately and filed a report. I'm surprised how understanding the officer was, he wasn't out to hang me or that he was against me like when they pull you over on the roadway. He was very helpful and said not to worry about anything, I didn't do anything wrong. He also said if his parents try to harass me or demand compensation, to refer them to the station since there is a report, and all evidence points to HIS FAULT for not having a HELMET or BRAKES. The officer also verified there was no damage done to my daytona, so there was no collission involved. FUCKED, eh?! |
take pics of the no brakes
|
I was thinking about that I don't have a camera handy though
I don't think I'm gonna give it back until I have pictures of no brakes |
disposable
|
Meh I'll just get someone to eyewitness no brakes, and I'll bring it to the parents attention when they come to pick it up
I'm not too worried about it, the police are already on my side, riding without a helmet is illegal, and riding on the sidewalks is also illegal. Up here in Ontario, anways. |

My wife must NEVER KNOW! You really do have goofy laws about the sidewalks. So you have to ride a bike in the streets? Lame! But helmet laws are the normal thing I believe if you are under 16 or something. I would normally wear a helmet if I was on a street riding a bike, but not in the neighborhoods. You did the right thing by going straight to the police though. |
I've got about 5k + a lot of labor in my FC NA. Lol. I never thought I would or even could. And it doesn't stop. It's taking over my disposable income . .

I love mississippi.

I am guessing banzai's peri-port project is about 15k into it. if he bought the whole peri-port motor from pineapple those are some serious $$$$$. but i could be wrong, and probably am wrong. |

Think about it, those laws are in place to prevent **** like what just happened to the poor kid Up here people on bikes are basically in the same class as motor vehicles. Some roads have a small "bike lane", but otherwise they ride on the road like normal traffic and they have to use hand signals for when they turn, etc. Basically they say when you are looking for traffic (cars), you tend not to notice cyclists as much, especially if you can't predict what they are going to do (back when there was no sidewalk law - people could ride on the road or sidewalk). So ride on the road, you will see them along with the cars, less accidents since they are following the same rules that motor vehicles are. |
mine weighed a total 4lbs and had rear brakes only. But i raced and freestyled so i need back brakes.
|
Hey colin, does it have a hub brake? Try to turn the pedals backwards.
|
doubtfull, its its that light hes jumping it, alot. Meaning its a free spin.
|
Yeah I checked and I rode the bike, only way to stop is to jam your foot on the back wheel, which explains his huge gash on his ankle.
Rear pedal does not equal brake |
