Scott and I have been trying to lose weight ever since the winter retreat. I weighed myself there and came in at a hefty 232 lbs. Well, a few weeks later and I'm in the 2-teens. I've been aerobic exercising every night, 30-60 mins a night, and trying to diet properly (Whole foods, 1000 calories/day), and this week I've managed to maintain a 218 lb average - yesterday's weigh in had me at 217.6 lbs. I hope to be in the 205-210 range by the end of next week. I don't think that's too agressive - 20 lbs in five weeks.

Sinful7 03-16-2005 11:13 AM

Why is it that my muscles don't hurt the day after training, but two days later they're killing me?

drftk1d 03-16-2005 11:14 AM

how tall are you?

Sinful7 03-16-2005 11:14 AM

6'1" ish

drftk1d 03-16-2005 11:17 AM

and what is your goal (weight wise)?

its kinda sad, i wiegh exactly 200 and i'm 5 foot 6in...

i used to be big, then i went to college.

phinsup 03-16-2005 11:20 AM

I am not weighing for a little while, don't want to get discouraged.

Been eating good, had a couple weekends where I ate like ****, but lean cuisines for lunch, slim fast bars for breakfast and then a good dinner, salads, trying to stay away from the breads.

Well, Ideally I'd like to see 215-220 of muscle. I think that'll take some time though, so my goal is to be in the 190's with my fat loss - around 10-12% bodyfat.

drftk1d 03-16-2005 11:41 AM

it looks like you are well on your way, i mean you lost like what 15lbs already in a few weeks.

So you should be good. you motivate me and make me want to get up off my ass and go jog.

i think i will do that. thanks alot sinful.

(i also undertand why youre making such a big change...)

Sinful7 03-16-2005 11:45 AM

Yeah, just keep hydrated, that's my only real advice.. The first week of weight loss I saw an 8 lb reduction, then I stagnated for a week - I assume it's because I lost quite a bit of water weight. Now, it seems I'm steadily on a decline, maybe a .3 lbs a day, which doesn't seem like a lot, but over ten days, that's three pounds. Go grab a three pound ham and it's clear how much bulk that really is.

j9fd3s 03-16-2005 11:55 AM

yeah, i just watch what i eat a little, and excersice a little, i'm down to 160 from 180sih. i feel great too

Sinful7 03-16-2005 12:03 PM

I also found out that for me, I need some carbs each day. I eat some rye bread or a *small* serving of pasta for a snack and I try to just eat veggies and meat for meals. But being near 1000 cal/day seems to be the trick. I'm constantly hungry, but the last few days has shown me just how hungry I can get before I start feeling ill. Now I know that being a little hungry isn't so bad.

Feds 03-16-2005 12:10 PM

Phins, gotta get on that scale every day. It's the only way you'll know.

It is suprising how little food you actually need. I did ~1500 cals a day for 3 mos, and it was difficult to stop losing weight once I reached my goal. Had to force myself to eat extra for a couple of weeks.

Nope, I have been riding my bike to work and home every day and I have been eating a lot better, I just want to feel better and I dont want the fact that I may have ost only 3 lbs or some **** to kill my motivation.

Go grab a 3 pound flank steak.. That's quite a bit of volume, and a flank steak is mostly muscle! Just imagine how much that'll be in fat volume.

My lunch today, according to the government nutritional values calculator, was all of 180 calories. Two ounces of turkey breast and half a cucumber!

phinsup 03-16-2005 12:32 PM

Yea I know how much you love cucumbers and banana's.

banzaitoyota 03-16-2005 12:47 PM

Wrapping your lips around a cucumber(if thats what you want to call it) constitutes a meal?

OH YEAH! You are on the 94T HI PROTEIN DIET PLaN

Sinful7 03-16-2005 12:51 PM

bah! It was sliced cucumber. Don't hate me because I'm getting healthier. *goes to smoke*

banzaitoyota 03-16-2005 01:00 PM

changing the gorth/length of whatever oral fetish object you stick between YOUR lips does not constitute healthier living

Sure, but I go up or down 3 lbs day-to-day. If you get on the scale every day, you can get a long term trend, and you stop worrying about a pound or two between days.

If I get some time in the next couple of days, I'll chart my weightloss. It'll show how the day to day variation can be ignored over the long run.

Yeah, I always thought it would be good motivation (and an eye-opener) to carry as much weight as you have lost with you occasionally. To give you an idea of how much extra work you were doing just lugging useless weight around.

Jeff20B 03-16-2005 01:29 PM

This thread inspired me to go weigh myself. I'm down 5 lbs from yesterday. That's what food poisening will do for you. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif

cymfc3s 03-16-2005 01:31 PM

The best diet, is the "too broke to eat out diet." I noticed when I cut fast food and restaurant food out of my diet, i lost a lot of weight.

Sinful7 03-16-2005 01:42 PM

I've been eating about half as much, but twice as often. Five 200 calorie meals seems good. and I'm eating often enough that I feel like I'm eating more.

Jeff20B 03-16-2005 01:50 PM

A lot of it's mental. I've gone from 140 down to 115, settled at 124 for about a year, then down to 118, back up to 138 then settled around 130 for a while. Today, I'm down to 125. I haven't been there in two years.

Sinful7 03-16-2005 02:38 PM

Um, I just found a fun site for caloric consumption based on weight..

http://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/cbc

Told me I burn 859 cals/hr biking at a medium-fast (12-14 mph) pace. I figure that's about right, although it might be more in my area due to topography and wind.

Sinful7 03-16-2005 07:40 PM

Meh, I just got done with my daily bike ride.. 11.94 miles in 55'36". I noticed that when I'm on nearly flat, or even slightly uphill, it's pretty easy to ride 15MPH. Too bad there's all kinds of hills around here, and my route leads me uphill into the wind. On the lighter side, the slight downhill areas (where you have to pedal to maintain speed) I can hit 21 pretty easily. I figure I moved about 900-950 calories on this ride - thats about 1/6 lb of fat. Time for dinner - 2 hardboiled eggs, which is about 150 calories.. 100 fat calories, but lotsa protien. That should put me at about 750 cals for the day.. So I've got a little room on the end for something else.. 1000 cals is my goal, 2200 should be what I consume if I were sedentary.

So, 2200 cals if I weren't active,

1000 cals consumed

900 cals burned working out

leaves 100 calories used for the rest of the day from food, which means I potentially burned 2100 calories of fat today.. which is 0.6 lbs. Hell, I just might see how long I can keep this up.. looks like I'll be able to lose a pound of fat every two or three days.

If I can keep it to just 750 calories consumed, then I can add that back into the fat I've burned off making it a total of almost .7lbs.

Rob x-7 03-16-2005 07:47 PM

Cut breads and sugar and save that calorie counting crap for Richard Simmons and old ladys

by the way, he asked me to give you this:

http://www.usdreams.com/photos%20ach...monsRP44KS.jpg

Sinful7 03-16-2005 08:02 PM

I did cut breads and sugar to a minimum in addition to calories.

Atkins does the same type of thing.. bottom line is to burn way more calories than I consume.

BTW, tonight's weigh in has me at 219.2, with about a half-gallon of water that I'm still storing.

Feds 03-17-2005 07:33 AM

Counting cals is the only way. All these diets just make it easy for you to count cals.

Don't forget that you process about 13lbs of water in a day, so daily fluctuations of a couple of pounds are no big deal.

At my peak, I was kicking off about 2 lbs per week. Definitely not easy, but the results are worthwhile.

Sinful7 03-17-2005 08:59 AM

Official weigh in this morning has me at 217.2, which has me lower by .4 lbs. I don't use exact weights so much as I use weekly averages. I'm hoping to see 216.X up on the display by saturday morning.

wanna feel great for a week?

go two days drinking nothing but water, and eating nothing but celery and wheaties

schedule as such:

breakfast: 1 cup of wheaties, 3oz celery, 1/2 cup skim milk for cereal, 2 12oz glasses of water.

drink 4 or more bottles (16 to 20oz) of water throughout the morning before lunch

Lunch: hwever much celery you feel like, doesn't matter, and 24oz water, if its really getting to you, put a couple small dollops of peanut butter on a couple pieces of celery, but not much

4 more bottles of water throughout the afternoon before dinner

dinner: celery, lots. 2oz peanut butter, 1 bowl wheaties. 24 oz water

drink at least 20oz of water per 1.5 hours before you go to bed.

repeat the same routine the next day.

you'll **** like crazy both days, and the next. the fiber in the wheaties and celery cleans you out, along with the water washing out any impurities.

it sounds stupid, but it works. you will fell better for a week or two, just cause your body got rid of everything.
