why are manufacturers covering the intake manifolds with these...

aesthetics or function...

i would guess enclosing such areas and keeping the heat in has its disadvantages...

I think its solely for looks, not like anybody has to do maintance under there anymore, there is nothing to adjust so why not put some snazzy covers under there, its mostly on the nicer cars they do it to.

Hmmm I can see if it's for the winter and it's some kind of warmer. Other than that sounds like what Rob said, just a style thing

yep they are just for looks. I think it looks really good. I'm going to fab some pieces out of CF for under the FD hood, not to cover the engine, just around all 4 sides of the engine bay, so you won't see wires and **** everywhere, just CF and bling bling :bigthumg:
