for the $5-$10 a month get the box from your cable company, HDMI and records in HD, and you can hook up external drives if you really want to
I paid for a tivo years ago and now its nothing but collecting dust in my attic only better thing about tivo was the software, blows away the cable company's boxes I will never watch TV without DVR again |

Well, the wife called to negotiate a lower monthly bill, and ended up succeeding, well partially. She also took the opportunity to upgrade to a 2-channel HD DVR or some such gizmo, which I hooked up today. I'll let you know tomorrow how it works.
I shudder to think what the bill will jump up to in a year, when this deal expires. |

I use Directv though and they don't charge me for the DVR service. I got a package when we bought the service that includes it. |
