My rx7 is currently out of comission. But I have a problem involving a different vehicle. It's on a '96 pontiac Grand Am Quad 4. I own 3 vehicles, and the pontiac I drive 3 out of the four seasons. not winter obviously. Well since this last winter I've been experiencing a bit of bucking in the car, so I bring the car to the mechanic for the problem, he tells me that I've got sediment built up in my fuel tank. Clogging up my injectors. I've tried to get away with putting Cleaner upon cleaner (in the recommended amounts) in on fill - ups. The Check engine light will go off for a little but, but bucking would remain and like always the check engine light would come back on. I'm do for an inspection at the end of the month. My vehicle won't pass under the updated New York inspection laws passed this past summer. The tank has to be drained and cleaned. I can do it myself if I have the proceedure.

Any one who knows of the proceedure on dropping the tank and filtering the remaining gas, and cleaning the tank would be greatly appreciated.

how did the guy figure it has sediment in the tank anyhow?

drop tank, you might not have to drain the gas to get it off the car, look for straps holding the tank on, then you will have to lower it enough to unplug and unhook everything.

drop tank off at shop to have them clean it

re-install tank, put new fuel filter on

When I took it to the mechanic he listened to the engine, and you could see it rocking, heard it was miss firing, did a diagnotic and all that jazz.( He said I believe him, all it takes is one or two tanks of shitty gas that has moisture in it and not putting stable in the tank before letting the car set. ) Well he pulled the coils packs off and gave me new ones from a "Z" cavalier of the same year that was in his yard, jucked for parts. He said the coils were shot and the filter was clogged nice and good, he gave me a new filter, which I had a return trip to him not to long after that filter was placed on and that filter was clogged. Sediment in the tank. So I took his advise and didn't let the tank go down past half a tank before filling it, hopeing that it would little by little get rid of it.

well, thats that.
