I don't know what it is.. Should I care?

UniqueTII 02-13-2003 05:09 PM

If you drive an 18 wheeler, or any synchro-less tranny, you should care.

Cheers! 02-13-2003 05:09 PM

double clutch is only needed in a transmission without syncros... or a FD with a dead 2nd, 3rd, and 5th syncro.

it is also known as rev matching.

Man, I had to do that one time in southern West Virginia near Bluefield. I came out of a McD's sideways in my 85 GSL and blew the clutch to high heaven.

It was about a 25 mile drive back to where I lived at the time. And as I entered Rich Creek and went to turn left at the only stoplight in town some stupid bitch stops right in the middle of the turn and I stall the damn thing.

Luckily that car just wanted to run. I started it in 2nd gear uphill just by turning the key. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Haha..I hear it is almost an art. My friend does it all the time at the track in his 5.0. I never bothered to learn it as it sounds pretty complicated. Too much to think about while you are going that fast. Besides I dont think it really helps him that much...

The moral of the story: Learn how to shift, we're not in the middle ages anymore..and movies are fake, ricers are stupid.

In an 18 Wheeler I only use the clutch to get the thing started. After that it's just working the gears.

Of coruse, I never got to see the higher gears as I was only moving the thing from one shop to the other. I'll always wonder what would have happend if I had been caught driving one without a CDL and what sort of evils would have befallen the trucking company.

The world may never know.
