suppose my wife would leave the tv on once in a great while, on average 5-8hrs a night... would it be hurting anything else or would it just be leading to prematrue lamp failure? i come home at 5am from work and the tvs just on, nothings on it (the cable box is off)... its just sitting there... doing nothing... i cant even remember how many times ive told her to make sure the tv is shut off... but i guess the constant reminders havent worked... its not like its hard to tell when you turn it off... blue light means its on, yellow light means its shutting down... not that hard... i didnt work my ass off so we could buy this nice tv and then have it piss out early on me... i give up... /rant

I don't like new TVs because they have too much overscan. You don't know what you're missing. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png

Write a reminder note on a short wide folded triangular piece of paper and place it on top of the TV.

Honestly man? Go to Best Buy or something and grab one of those power timers. Plug the TV into the timer, and the timer to the wall...and set the time of day it will shut off. Works wonders.

I doubt his tv needs a external timer, im sure it has a built in one

better yet- she can just press the button

1revnrex 09-02-2006 11:10 AM

Shoot the ole lady and buy a dog.

QuackDamnYou 09-02-2006 11:15 AM

You're right, it might have a built-in timer...if it doesn't my suggestion still stands :-p.

She SHOULD be able to press a button though...my older brother leaves our 53" TV on ALL the time...

Life's too short. If you're stressing about whether or not your damn TV is on all night, you've probably spent more than you could comfortably afford on it.

QuackDamnYou 09-02-2006 12:14 PM

Aside from my mother's car and the house, we own everything. Leaving such a large TV on all the time wastes power, and adds cost to the electric bill every month that could easily be avoided. Not to mention the added wear on the TV itself. If it were some ho-hum CRT TV that was only like $200, we wouldn't have an issue with it. But when a TV is worth far more than that, you don't want to just leave it on.

And when your older brother is 6'3 and 320lbs of fat, getting off his ass to turn the TV off before he sleeps for the next 20 hours is excercise that he very much needs.

Do you know how much bulbs for a projector cost? Any idea at all? You don't want to leave it on unless you're using it...it WILL eventually burn out and then you'll be crying.

Rob x-7 09-02-2006 12:15 PM

the lamps for my tv are $61 each I think

QuackDamnYou 09-02-2006 12:19 PM

Cheaper than my friend's. Multiply that times three.

should have bought the warranty. then you wouldnt have this problem.

holy ****! never thought of that!

and we did buy the warrenty, the extended... but that only covers 1 bulb replacement after that, i really dont feel like forking out $260 per bulb

So you ARE in the same boat as my friend. Check your owners manual to see if it's got a built in timer. If not, they shouldn't be but a few bucks at Wally World or Best Boobs.

ill look into that... thanks

Rob x-7 09-02-2006 03:27 PM

maybe your wife can hit the sleep timer once she turns the tv on, this way it will always shut itself off eventually

teknics 09-02-2006 04:48 PM

hit her in the head with a hammer, or stop letting her sniff cocaine while watching tv.

honestly i might leave the tv on once a year, but even then im normally sleeping on the couch with the remote in my hand.

how do you constantly, to the point of being complained at, forget to turn off a tv?

kevin.

Rob x-7 09-02-2006 05:02 PM

I bet she does it on purpose!

QuackDamnYou 09-02-2006 05:27 PM

Well, if you're like my brother...you're just too fat to get up or press a button on the remote control...he'd get out of breath trying to do either I bet! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

Rob x-7 09-02-2006 06:21 PM

I bet he can muster the energy to kick you in the teeth

QuackDamnYou 09-02-2006 09:05 PM

No. but I am death afraid of him sitting on me.

i have to deal with it with my girlfriend. i wake up at 5 or 6am and see scooby*******doo on the tv, and shut it off. she wakes up and gets all pissy. i then proceed to smack er with the remote or any foreign object. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
