Since im in desperate need of my car back, and the mustang is toast, thinking of taking out a small personal loan from my bank. It'll let me build credit whilst getting my 7 back. I'll be able to get the engine (not reman like atkins but a fellow member or parts trader deal), belts, hoses, tires, and odds like paint and anything else that comes up.

dad says finance a RX8, i say can u spell i-n-t-e-r-e-s-t

Driven one yet?

FDRacing 05-15-2004 01:16 AM

Ya, wasnt impressed but as another member pointed out, i drove an auto.

Eric Happy Meal 05-15-2004 01:32 AM

do yourself a favor and check out the manual. its a whole other beast.

FDRacing 05-15-2004 01:41 AM

yea but i cant see a 19yr old with no credit getting approved for an 8 lol, evem wit my dads awsome credit.

I dont know that i would want a manual, its OK but for everyday driving its a little bit of a hassle.

SoniX 05-15-2004 03:15 AM

Manual is the only way to go, anything else feels too disconnected from what the car is doing, and don't let anyone try to tell you it is too much work for everyday driving, unless you have a massa pressure plate, and a 6 LB flywheel, it is no problem at all.

Nan da yo! 05-15-2004 05:37 AM

Revvin to 9K is definately worth it.

Also, once you get really used to manual, its just second nature. The people who complain about it being a hassle for everyday driving are either old or aren't good at it. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

FDRacing 05-15-2004 05:40 AM

I'm just afriad ro get manual and then regret it. And ive only done it it a few times.

Things to think bout while im bored at work ina hour lol.

inanimate_object 05-15-2004 06:43 AM

You will never regret manual - over here 95% of cars are manual and no-one wishes they drove an auto - If my sister can handle it you can. BTW the one time I drove an auto i hated it, it felt so unnatural without a clutch.

Mark

mazdaspeed7 05-15-2004 09:54 AM

Driving a manual makes you a better driver. You have to be more aware of your situation, and it carries over into awareness of your surroundings.

And you will never regret it. Think of it as a challenge to be overcame. In the end, all the hard work will be worth it.

gazellis 05-15-2004 10:01 AM

I have a lot of Mazda dealership sales guys as patients. One of the big whigs told me that there is a 60 horsepower difference between the standard and automatic. Standard have more ponies of course.

If that is true than that is worth getting a stick anyday.

So true.

When I drive automatic I feel like I want to fall asleep because I'm never anticipating when to shift next..

ColinRX7 05-15-2004 10:02 AM

Oh yeah and when you get a manual you can practice heel-toe-ing. It's very hard at first but as you practice more and more everyday it's SO fun.

A motor that wont idle is DAMN good practice for that....

ColinRX7 05-15-2004 10:17 AM

Stock S4 N/A it is then! I'll take it!

Leetheslacker 05-15-2004 10:28 AM

if i can drive manual, so can you!

BrandonDrecksage 05-15-2004 10:40 AM

get a manual, you'll regret it more when we go to auto x and the slush o matic won't find the right gear for you....I just went through the whole thing in buying a new car, my uncle cosigned for me and i got a really low interest rate. I financed 12k for 66 months and i'm paying 208 a month. So in the end after the car is payed off, I will only have paid 1700 in interest over 5 1/2 years

ColinRX7 05-15-2004 12:17 PM

What kind of car was it?

PhoenixDownVII 05-15-2004 12:35 PM

Yea, learning manual is like the first time you get contacts.

At first, your eyes are like WTF Mate? Stop that! and you can't pop those boys in at all https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif But then your eyes give up and say "k take a nap THEN FIRE THE MISSILES!" and you're set.

And now, I can take out my contact, rub my eyes, and put them back in, without a mirror, in class, at college...:P

ONLY reason for Auto is the TYPE of Daily Driving you do...NYC Driving is a lot easier in an Auto, but since I only *visit* nyc and usually walk most of the city, it's no big deal. Same go's with bumper-2-bumper traffic, it happens but not too often. It doesn't compare to all the times you'll wish you had Manual, driving an Auto (as the converse)

Eric Happy Meal 05-15-2004 12:56 PM

my biggest problem with an auto is that once you put your foot into it, you have to wait for a second as it shifts gears. but its just so annoying driving an auto, it feels like your not even driving.

mazdaspeed7 05-15-2004 01:29 PM

One of the magazines I read a while ago had a good description of an auto compared to a manual. "With an automatic, it feels like theres a giant rubber band between the engine and the wheels." Oh so true.

FDRacing 05-15-2004 04:33 PM

Good points, its my dad constantly telling me ill regret it and i hate hows hes usually right.

"you cant hold your gf's hand"

"its hard to eat or drink"

"cant get to the radio"

but then i see myself get in the 8 and DRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIFTTTTTT BITCHES

manual would be cool, i guess you choose what to get used to right. I'ma go local a dealer and go from there. Perhaps i was unfair to the RX8 baing on a auto.

"you cant hold your gf's hand"
Her hand on stick shift, your hand on top of her hand to shift.

"its hard to eat or drink"
WTF are you doing eating and drinking while driving? Why don't you make a few phonecalls while your at it?

"cant get to the radio"
While driving a 5 spd? It's as hard as chewing gum and walking at the same time!

But back on topic i dont think you should take out a loan cause i will always live by spend what you can afford and it doesnt seem like you can afford it right now.

Thats the only tricky one.. shifting with left hand... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.png

FDRacing 05-16-2004 06:31 PM

I can afford it depending on the insurance payment setup.

State farm doesnt accept new applicants does it?

i think the most iv'e ever done while driving manual at one time:

1)on phone

2)turning down radio

3)shifting gears after radio while coming up on light

4)taking a bite of my sandwhich and then a sip of coke

5)rollind up window to make it quieter while on phone

after a while, it gets to be second nature.

FDRacing 05-16-2004 06:43 PM

ive decided i wont manual, working on insurance quotes. Going to make me about 3 weeks to have the insurance payment.
