Is that a 2-way road?

Yep it sure is!

That really keeps you on your toes https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Well that sucks, see it's a public road then, right? I thought it was a resort that only people who pay can ride. In other words, I thought it was like a 2 lane downhill ride for 11 miles that you can take as fast as you want. It would be cool to just let loose and test your skills throughout the corners without having to worry about opposing traffic.

I am not planning on speeding on the straightaways I plan on speeding through the turns.

I will be armed with:

1. V-1 Radar Locator

2. Motorola 2 way radios.

3. Enough common sense to realize the place the cops will be looking for speeders is in the straights.

If you are going to meet up with us pick up a Motorola 14 channel 2 way radio. They are great.

I got some generic ones but you cannot change to a common frequency. We will need lookouts at the two choke points on that stretch of highway 129 https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png Thats all

Jims-when I head down to FL in spring, I might hit that up (but it will be in March, not May) if ya wanna meet up so I can ogle the FC https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png That road reminds me a lot of this road through the Redwoods in California, I think it's Rt. 1, or 11, or something like that. It made me physically ill after an hour of driving on it (it was like 45 miles long). I was so dizzy aferwards that I barely made it back to the house we were staying at. Anyway, Jims, lemme know!

i'll definately go, i'm about 2 1/2 hrs away from the gap. be sure to hit up cesar's head and pretty point while you are up here. You can't race at pretty point, but it is incredibly gorgeous. It's an outdoor chapel on the side of the mountain, overlooking Greenville and the mountains. Sounds sorta gay, but it is really peaceful and inspiring.

twstdmtl 11-07-2003 06:36 AM

I am about 4 hours away but I am so there. I got some motorcycle friends/fiends that are going down in May or June. I don't think I will have my ported 13b ready by then though https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png I guess I will just have to make do with near stock... Man that makes me wanna cry. I need mods dammit! Oh Yeah and a title too https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

I read an experiance from a miata guy whe had 2 turbo mitas behind him on that road and he held them off. I really dont think a lot of horsepower is what is needed. Good tires and suspension will be all you need.

ANYONE WHO LIVES IN THE AREA. IF YOU CAN RECOMMEND A HOTEL / MOTEL IN THE AREA I WOULD APRRRECIATE IT.

I was thinking somewhere where there is a town with places to eat and drink would be good. I am taking my 10 y/o son with me so I really will not be going out to drink. But I know the other guys might want to. I am going to drive/eat/sleep and that is it. Oh, and meet some NP guys.

Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area is about an hour away if I remember correctly. Me and my friends went down to the gap 10 ppl (5 couples) deep. And we rented a chalet in the Smoky Mountains right outside of G-burg. It was pricey like 350 dollars a nice but it was a 5000 sq ft deal with all the amenities. I know you can find anything in G-burg form $19.95 a night (my honeymoon https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR to $500+ a night) If that is too much of a drive, there may be a city closer but I really did not see anything that resembled civilization on the Tennessee side. Try North Carolina like the Fontana area if you don't want to drive. It is real close but it is a very small area. Not much going on there if anything. Godd luck man.

Jims5543 11-07-2003 01:08 PM

No Gatlinburg is good. It isn't like driving an hour to Dragon will not be fun. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

I have been all over the BRH on my honeymoon. I was in Gatlinburg and its a neet city. Good call I will find a hotel/motel and see if we can work out a group rate.

I was thinking it might be better to go when its still too cool for Motorcycles to want to drive it. Maybe we go earlier like April = less motorcycle traffic.

Is that cool??

Jims5543 11-07-2003 01:09 PM

BTW - What price range per night do we want to be in?

I plan on being in the area Friday night and Sat. night.

I don't want to have too much input cause I don't even know if i will have my car titled by then (sticky situation) besides I am heading down with some motorcyle traffic. I usually drive the Super-Slut (super charged nissan frontier) down there to tow the bikes and spare gear. This time I am gonna take the seven if I can. So you all decide and I will try to meet up. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

The trip ro the Gap from G-burg is so fat. There are some gentle sweeping curves that you could set your cruise control on 70 and have nothing to fear. It is a nearly life changing experience for some one who really enjoys motoring. It would be even better rotoring though https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/happy.png

Jims5543 11-07-2003 01:29 PM

Your input is valued as you have been there and can give us good tips even if you dont go. You gotta try though. Driving in a pack of RX-7s is a total rush.

Anyone who hasn't experienced it will be blown away. I have been on several cruises, but the Pocono one 2 years ago was the craziest. We were flying down these 1 1/2 lane PA backroads with 25+ cars at speeds of around 70. Luckily, there were no accidents and only one ticket...and a shitload of adrenaline.

If you come down I would reccomend staying in Maryville. There are nice places near the gap but there are hardly any restaurants, gas stations etc. I have seen tractor trailers up there on occasion but the most dangerous thing you have to watch out for up there is yourself. The cops do get kind of thick up there but as long as you stay on your side of the double yellow they are OK. When I go up there I usually leave the house by 7:00 am since there is hardly any traffic up there then. I would not reccomend driving in very large groups because that really makes you stick out like a sore thumb. I always try to keep a low profile and when I go up with a group there is usually no more than four cars and they are people that I trust that wouldn't do anything stupid.

Whenever you all make this trip give me a yell. I'm about 3-4 hours away and I'd love to drive it.

That would be so awesome to get a group of sevens together for a run!
