DRAG RACING
A House committee Thursday created a bill that would upgrade the charge for drag racing to a first-degree misdemeanor, punishable by fines of up to $1,000 and a year in jail — a move they intend to serve as a deterrent to kids who gun their cars down country roads or through marked courses. It's already a second-degree misdemeanor to drag race, punishable by fines between $250 and $500 and up to 60 days in county jail. Under the proposal, officials would also seize cars used in drag races. Anyone charged with drag racing twice in a five-year span would face a third-degree felony, including penalties of up to five years in state prison and maximum fines of up to $5,000. The bill that cleared the House Public Safety and Crime Prevention Committee specifies two types of drag racing — side-by-side races or time trials around a marked course. "We have a serious problem out here with our children," said Rep. Sandra Adams, R-Orlando. "We have a nice country road that people seem to like to race down." A similar bill (SB 2472) is already moving through the Senate. |
man a feloney...but on the other hand we already have the min 1k fine, impound car instant ride to jail...and depending on how many times 6 months in jail.

You would be better off selling drugs the school kids in a playground. At least then you could walk in about 2 or 3 days.
You do realize street racing is a manace to everyone? I know the illegals here are run on an old farm road about 30 miles from anything. It is important for the police to protect the general public from this. I would imagine this includes a sprited pull from a red light. It isnt like when our parents were kids anymore. Thank you Fast and Furious. |
This compliments that fact that it's basically illegal to run a stock car on the track quite well. Force everyone off the track to the streets and off the streets into jail.

I have a wonderful solution for state/county governments EVERYWHERE:
Build a dragstrip. Use all that funding from arresting "street racers" to fund a dragstrip. Effectively, the death/accident tolls will be reduced and the state can gain funding through this extremely popular world of racing... How 'bout it? |
yea i agree it's all that movie's fault.....granted it was an issue before that movie but it wasnt as big untill after that movie there are also a few places that are far from everything that some ppl drag dont know bout now (nova rd in st cloud for those that've heard of it) but that place wasn't a spot for the ricers so it wasnt a dangerous spot.........there have been many types of argument's i've heard of like what Dysfnctnl85 is talkin about but it doesnt fly for some reason
|
I know there is no track around here that has open drags...if there was, the Moreland Ave/Buford crowd would be there every weekend.
It would be sweet to somehow have a track that could support more than two cars at once....hmmmm... |
I dont like that "time trial around a marked course" much at all.
I would presume this would not be enforceable on private property? |

....**** you Hollywood, **** you FATF. Thank you for spawning a generation of ricers who have thorougly ruined the sport. |
I mean multiple drag racers at one time...ie, 6 cars dragging at the same time.
If only MS had given ME $12 million instead of Opera! |
Orlando Speed Worl (Bithlo) has the ability to run 4 cars at once. I have never seen them open 4 lanes though. Only 2.

Welcome to the police state of America.
Land of the Free*** *** As long as you don't piss the police off. |
My dream is to save a ton of money and open a suburban 1320 where you can race all night, every night for a $5 track fee. The problem with my local dragstrip - it's only open for test 'n tune on wednesday. I'm really, really busy wednesday nights, and like to do my drag racing on Sunday - but alas, there's no test 'n tune Sunday nights.

Bah, thats all so much crap. Stupid liberals.
|
Anotehr reason thats ridiculous is its not even as big of a problem as people make it out to be. Really, you might as well go sell drugs on theplayground because you'll never get caught because the cops are busy trying to catch "street racers"
|
What a joke... If they haven't stopped the street racing scene since the 60's, what makes them think they are going to stop it now? Maybe if they just admitted they can't stop people from doing it and did something to accomodate us into safer conditions they'd eliminate the STREET racing problem.

If they made it easier to get some damn poonanny I think street racing would pretty much die, accompanied by an explosion in the population.. but still. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png

How does/do the tree/trees work on a strip like that? It would be awesome to see who can get to the finish line first...but with handicaps...don't remember the technical term...you know, allowing a car to leave before another and so on. |

I wish I had a place like that to go...it would be something to see 4 cars going at once.

My friends and I have discussed many times how popular an open track would be...either drag or road course. I'm sure it'd be an insurance nightmare, but assuming you could get out of the liability somehow and allow just about anyone to come race their car for a small fee I guarantee that place would be PACKED Thursday through Sunday. Throw a dyno and a tune/repair shop on the premises and you'd be rich. If I only had millions for startup....
