I took these two pics a few years ago through my telescope with my digi cam. I just held the camera to the eyepiece and then resized and lightly processed the images on the computer. They are not too great but I'm bored so I thought I would see if there are any other rotary astronomers.

Here is the scope. I still have it but I sold the mount to finish my RX-7 project. It is a 12" Meade Schmidt-Cassegrain compound telescope. The pic was taken at an observing site about 60 miles south of Phoenix.

It's Jupiter and **********ing Saturn.

Those last two pics were taken through my 6" f/9 refractor, shown in this pic. The man standing next to it is about 5'6" tall.

I hate you..

hahah.. Cool pics man..

Fluid Dynamics 12-31-2003 09:36 PM

Thanks. I miss Arizona when I see these pics again. The desert is perfect for looking at the stars. I met so many engineers, consultants, managers, etc. at starparties (when everyone meets at the same place with their scopes) and made a lot of friends.

defprun 12-31-2003 10:41 PM

Oh...I thought star parties were when geeks gathered around to play the star wars card game and eat s'mores. My bad.

Is that a homemade stand because you had to sell your good one?

Rotarydragon 01-01-2004 12:21 AM

Damn I'm jealous, my telescope isn't nearly that good. Ah well maybe one of these years.

teknics 01-01-2004 12:48 AM

Actually, I bought the mount w/o a tripod because there were none available that could fold quickly and be lightweight. So I designed and built my own. When I sold the mount I got $400 more than I paid, because I threw in my "home made" tripod. Here is how the tripod looked after I finished it off.

Oh and Kevin, I'm glad my name makes you think of sex. Be it known that I am straight and did not buy that big long telescope out of a desire to project it onto a certain bodily member of mine which may have been lacking in size. Heh. What do you have to say to that?!?!?!?

Your big telescope makes up for something small.

Fluid Dynamics 01-01-2004 05:53 AM

I'm not going to comment on that. You need to ask my ex g/f how she feels about whatever it is you are trying to suggest . . .

9BASE3 01-01-2004 10:39 AM

Yeah I know she likes to get vocal. I was always afraid the neighbors would get mad at all the noise, but they weren't getting any, so they probably enjoyed hearing her multiple orgasms. She's a fiery one.
