IMO it's the most retarded 'sport' ever... i wish i got paid millions of dollars to stand in a grassy field and scratch my nuts. Oh and on top of that I get to bitch that i'm not paid enough and dumbasses still go pay to watch me stand in a grassy field scratching my nuts

ThirdGenRX7 04-10-2002 10:01 PM

apparently nobody can https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

phinsup 04-10-2002 10:05 PM

HA HA you are replying to your own topics.

ThirdGenRX7 04-10-2002 10:11 PM

it was my sly way of bumping it... or I could just say that I like talking to myself

Renesis 04-10-2002 10:15 PM

I would LOVE the opportunity to explain the beauty of baseball!! Ahh...the "American" sport...Now I'll be the first to admit there's alot of ball scratchin' goin' on out there...But that's only PART of the fun https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png ...

Where else can you see someone throwing a small object at almost 100 miles an hour?? Then another guy amazingly proceeds to take a crack at it with a narrow wooden stick and watch it sail hundreds of feet...Amazing...There's so much SKILL to this game! You have to be able to transfer the motion from your legs to your arms to really wail the ball...and it has to be done with precision so it nails another guy's glove...All without errors. Plus, you've gotta move fast...And pitching...Pitching is a talent all in and of itself.

Man...Are you being serious?! Do you seriously think there is no appeal whatsoever? I am especially shocked that you put sport in quotation marks as though to say it weren't one...That's like saying bowling is a "sport"...

phinsup 04-10-2002 10:17 PM

admins can bump using the "bump" command... so i am going with talking to yourself.

ThirdGenRX7 04-10-2002 10:39 PM

i can't tell if renesis is being sarcastic or not?

7sins 04-10-2002 10:44 PM

I love baseball. I think a person either "gets it" or doesn't. I don't care for hockey, oval tracks, horse racing...but MANY others do. We all have our own interests I guess.

ThirdGenRX7 04-10-2002 10:49 PM

but could ya explain to me why you like it? I just don't 'get it'? as you say... when I was little i did but then those homos had a strike because 20 million wasn't enough... damn homoerotic **********ers

7sins 04-10-2002 11:06 PM

It is hard to have sympathy for striking players, but keep in mind that the owners are really at fault. First they pony up millions for "star" players and then complain about it. Second they lie about the teams profit. The baseball commissioner outright lied in a congressional hearing about how baseball is losing money. I saw a recent story that compared what each MLB team made to what he claimed and it was infuriating. Meanwhile, the everyday utility player misses out on a fair share of all those dollars. If the owners don't have the money why is it that they offer the big money to "star" players...liars.

That aside, I enjoy watching a control pitcher trick a hitter, getting him off balance or even a power pitcher like Johnson fire 100mph blast. its great to watch the hitters adjust...not their package... to the pitching. I like to see the personalities that i like succeed and those I don't struggle.

It was awesome to watch the last game of the 01 series. Schilling and Johnson finally got to go to a series and then led the underdog Dbacks to win over the mighty Yankees (I like the Yankees and hate the Mets).

ThirdGenRX7 04-10-2002 11:23 PM

seems to me there is too much money in that sport

Renesis 04-10-2002 11:24 PM

Actually, ThirdGenRX7, I'm being totally serious...I really love baseball alot...I totally agree with 7sins...Schilling and Johnson were freaking incredible last season!! I have ALWAYS loved Randy Johnson...It's people like him who are truly amazing...That man is blasting balls (heh...that could be taken more than one way... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub... ) at 98mph or better clear into the 9th inning like it was the 1st inning...He has skills and stamina...It really is an amazing thing. If you've ever played baseball, you know what I'm talking about.

For me, though, I love sports of all kinds...Baseball, Football and Hockey are by far my favs...Football being the one I love with a passion.

My baseball team: Colorado Rockies!

No jokes about the pitching staff, please... :(

They won 10-5 last night with Tomson pitching against the 'stros, but the night before they lost with Neagle (and I gotta say, I think he's a good pitcher, just had a bad game) pitching...He did pitch a sucky game, but Todd Hollandsworth was also spending TOO much time scratching his nuts and keeping his thumb in his ass in left field...

That's my $.02!

YucA 04-11-2002 09:04 AM

i dont like baseball...i agree with thirdgen...it can suck my balls.

as a matter of fast, here in miami, its on the news how dead the stadium has been...hardly anyone is going to watch the games.i personally think its ****** hilarious

bigtime 04-11-2002 09:05 AM

I think you hit it right on the head there Renesis. Baseball is not a sport, it is a game. Much like golf. It takes a lot of skill to be a good golfer. It probably takes a lot of skill to be a good pro ball player. But there is no real expenditure of energy, no real athletisism involved in either golf or baseball (the exception being the pitcher, all of the other players just stand around), unlike typical sports (basketball, soccer, tennis). Go out and play a bit of <baseball, soccer, basketball, whatever>. When you are done, are you tired? If so, I think you can call what you were doing a sport. Otherwise it is not.

I don't have a problem with baseball myself, to each his own. I've got a short attention span, so it seems incredibly boring to me personally. My problem is when people call baseball a sport. It seems to insult all of the other real sports.

ThirdGenRX7 04-11-2002 11:18 AM

Well why do you need so many players on a team? seems to me that there should be a pitcher and a batter and the batter should get points for how far he hits the ball. You don't need all those other retards just standing around. Sure you need skill to be the pitcher, but do you need any skill to be in the outfield?

treceb 04-11-2002 11:32 AM

thats called, home run derby. baseball you either like it or you dont. i like it, but usually dont watch it till the playoffs. its the only time its really "interesting". Like when the mets almost beat they yanks. and like someone already mentioned, the underdog beating a favorite at the world series.

and the ppl on the outfield are not entirely there for their defensive ability, but for their offensive ability.

football sucks more that baseball. practically takes no skill. anyone can throw and catch a ball. and hockey is only fun when there are fights.

Renesis 04-11-2002 11:54 AM

ryan: Okay, I'll agree with it being called a "game"...and, I'll agree somewhat that it requires little athleticism...It requires probably less than other sports like football...But there still is a requirement athletically, baseball players just lower the standard because most of them have beer guts and are out of shape...But some of the players are in fact, really fit, and those are usually the more well rounded players...The guys who can play both offense and defense really well...I mean, look at Kurt Schilling for example: Great pitcher. But every time he runs the bases, I'm not sure if he's even gonna make it there! He's in horrible shape! If he'd shape up, he'd be an even more valuable player because he'd have more to contribute to the overall game...I mean don't get me wrong, he's a stellar asset to have on a team...and I know pitchers aren't usually exceptional hitters...It's the principle.

treceb: Okay I know the thread was originated for baseball...I just have to know: How can you say FOOTBALL takes no skill??!! There is so much skill involved in each different position...Right down to the kicker!! Man...Just take being a quarterback for example. If you're the QB, you've gotta be able to call plays, keep your eyes on the entire field to watch for opponents that got past the line so you don't get sacked or fumble the ball, and you've gotta be looking for an open receiver (if you're running a pass play) and execute the pass ACCURATELY while being able to be on the run if necessary...Plus you've gotta be able to play and make decisions under pressure...You've gotta be able to scramble in the pocket and still make clear minded decisions...I mean, look at the greats...John Elway, Dan Marino...They were such incredible players on so many levels...You could count on them, even if they had sub-super athlete receivers and the like...But QBs like Brian Griese and Trent Dilfer...You have to surround them with a stellar offensive team in order for anything to get anywhere...Brian Griese for sure...Last season, he threw 19 interceptions and had a QB rating of 78.5...This season, I have full confidence that the offensive team on the Broncos is going to be far better...This season they're looking at a healthy Ed McCaffrey, Terell Davis (fingers crossed) and Shannon Sharpe, just to name 3 players they didn't have last year. I guarantee it will make a difference in the way the offense looks...Skilled, athletic players make the difference.

And that's my sports rant.

KinetikRX 04-11-2002 12:02 PM

As a kid I used to love Baseball. The A's were my team (this is around the time when they were in the World Series in San Fran and the Earthquake hit) and Mark McGwire was the man - long before his homerun record. But then the strikes came along and I haven't watched a game since. Whiney bastards- anybody who gets paid to play a GAME should be happy to make anything at all, when I have to bust my ass to make a meager living.

I've always been a fan of slower moving games and such- I love chess (used to love baseball) and recently I have started playing and watching golf. In the past I hated golf. thought it was the dumbest most boring game in the world- what can I say, I'm getting old. And those guys can make some money too. Even the mediocre players make six figure incomes.

Renesis 04-11-2002 12:12 PM

Fan that I am, I'll still agree with you...The strike SUCKED and did disenchant me with the MLB (not the sport itself) for a while.

ThirdGenRX7 04-11-2002 01:08 PM

I say anybody who pays attention to professional sport where the athletes are paid on a salary is big time dumbass. Those guys don't give a **** as long as the money keeps rolling in. Just watch professional basketball, those guys aren't trying at all. That's why college sports are so much better than professional, the guys are playing so they don't lose their spot on the team. Sorry ranted about something off topic. I guess my point is most profesional sports piss me off because they take advantage of the average retard american and give millions of dollars to people who can barely spell their own names. While people doing necessary and useful things aren't getting paid ****. Greedy assholes :madgo: You guys keep bringing up Golf and I think that's a great professional sport because if you don't make the cut you don't get paid. At least in the PGA there is no appearance money.
