So anyway, don't know how true this is, but a little while back I heard a story about a guy who had his car with SR20DET on a dyno.

Story goes he put on a new cone filter, but didn't remove the small polystyrene foamy **** that it was packed in, in the box.

Starts up the car, that **** gets sucked into the intake and apparently under high temperature polystyrene turns into industrial strength glue. Well, it glued his engine together. Couldn't even rebuild it, cos everything was glued together.

THought I'd share. as I said, could be bullshit though.

Maybe we could do that to fix broken apex seals?

polystyrene becomes a highly flammable substance once it's melted, not really a glue, more like a napalm.

but those stories have been reproted, so have been reports of the HKS foam type filters falling apart, having pieces sucked into either a turbo or engine and therefore losing either a turbo or engine due to big foam chunks floating around.

Its foam, it'll get pulverised. I've had 2 air boxes collapse while on the dyno at work and the only damage was either 1. Stuck open throttle 2. bent throttle plates 3. A bent valve here or there from the mesh, and chewed up valve seats from the filter bits.

the poly packing would have been diced by the turbine, and you would have had bent impeller blades and a really bad melted plastic smell.

well...I guess you can say that car was really glued to the road.....

I had a box full of the polystyrene bits when I got a oil pan shipped from the US. My dog tried to eat it.
