I have a friend who has a laptop and when she tries to burn a cd halfway through the burn the computer shuts down it's an HP about a year old. Any ideas?

hmm possible firmware update...else if shes running XP, theres an update also available for some cd-r...
|
maybe she has too many running programs?
I had that problem when I first put a cd burner in my computer and had too many running programs. Tell her to shut down any programs that arent needed for the burning. |
Sounds like processor overheat to me. Check and make sure the cooling fan is running and the heatsink is clean.

Don't forget to align the di-polar optic comparater circut.
