Somethign like this happened to me. W2k would give me errors about missing/bad dlls halfway through startup.

We put the HDD in a nother comp running w2k and it CHKDSK'd it and found TONS of bad sectors. After letting it top that a few times and trying the repair feature on a w2k cd it booted up right. Except it ran funny cause little parts were missing from being corrupted, mostly worked right, then i ended up formatting and reinstalling.

Dont know how to fix your problem though, try the F8 thing...

I still need to setup a dual boot with 2k/linux.

i just need to remember how.

Whats your suggestion of which linux digisan?

Digisan 07-24-2003 04:16 AM

Sounds like your drive is taking a crap. Get another HD and load 2K or XP on it. Take the old drive and try to copy the files you want to the new one immediately. Sounds like you have bad sectors piling up, don't use the old drive until you need to copy the files. After you copy the files, dipsose of the drive with a 5lb sledge.

You can do it with grub now no issues like before, I used to have to use BootMagik and **** like that. i don't bother now, I have so many machines I don't need to dual boot.

I agree, works great, no issues with XP or 2K. Point and click, Linux has come a long way.

Does Linux have something like system restore?

I should be receiving the parts I ordered for my computer today...I will be having 2 HDD, so I was also wondering what version of Linux is best?

My college offers Red Hat 9 I think...

Would it just be best to use 1 HDD for Linux and one for XP?

Oh, and FDOkinawa: I hope you get your **** fixed. I go crazy when my comp gets fubar'd! These guys have some good advice though.
