Was browsing through an old manual(1968 Beetle), and it says that you shouldnt rest your foot on the clutch pedal casue it aides in its wear. This got me thinking, and noticed that I rested my foot on the pedal occasionally.
Anyone else does this. |
Yea it will kill your throwout bearing because it will be partially ingaged when it shouldn't be in the equation at all.

Yea, I always use the foot rest, and never let my foot ride on the clutch. I remember when I was a kid my dad used to ride the clutch, and my mom would always get pissed at him for it. Funny how I remember that.

I usually ride it for a few second after i shift. Plus, I dont think my car has a foot rest. |
Shouldnt it have been the other way?? If you just ride it a bit after you shift it, then it is probably alright. I think it is just bad when you keep your foot on it while going through town. If you have a lot of traffic to work through then it is probably impossible not to ride it to some extent. I thought all mazdas had a foot rest? I know my 86 and my 82 both have them. They are great when you are driving on the freeway. |
I never do that. It would probably be uncomfortable, due to my long legs.

I never ride the clutch, actually I use the clutch only to engage a gear, and not to dis-engage. So if Im shifting from 1st-2nd, I drop the shifter down without the clutch, and all at once engage the clutch and shift to 2nd, and take my foot compleatly off. So Im saving one clutch engagement per shift, which adds up and probably is the reason I never ever have to replace any clutches in anything I have ever owned. This is the only car I have had where if I get on the car, I HAVE to use the clutch to shift. I had a electric shifter on my motorcycle, that thing was the ****, full throttle upshifts without the cluth, thing would sound so cool without the revs dropping down at all.

right after i shift my foot usually stays there a few seconds, but i try not to ride it like a h03...
