was talking about clutches with an expert for WRXs and he told me this

The harder the force needed to exert on the pedal, the more stress it is on the thrust bearings on the car. Remember one thing, when you are pushing on the clutch pedal, you are actually pushing on a lever that multiplies your pressure about 100 times to the clutch. Take a look at the clutch pedal, the clutch master cylinder pushrod is mounted pretty high on the pedal, and it's really close to the fulcrum, that gives that lever an 1:12 leverage factor, and the slave cylinder does the same but a lower ratio. Now figure that you're putting 20 lbs of pressure on that pedal, it's pushing over 600 lbs at the clutch pressure plate.

That's 600 Lbs of side load on the crank shaft thrust bearings. That's a lot, and if you do lots of stop and go driving, it eats the life of the engine.

hrm... and i was going to go with ACT Xtreme preesure plate with street/strip disc...

what are your thoughts and opinions on this?

it sounds correct physics wise but i think it will be fine. on certain cars the tranny and other components cannot handle the stress.............rx7's can https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

lol the worst you could probably do to your tranny and drivetrain is get a puck clutch

hahahahahahaha

Ha?

the rx7's dont have thrust bearings like a piston engine, they have torrington needle roller bearings, ive never seen one fail except for misinstallation. usually if anything the clutch fork breaks
