I dumped someone's portable hardrive with music on my computer, problem is somehow I got some duplicates because I had dumped it last year and I guess I clicked something wrong that allowed it to put 2 copies of some of the same files.
is there a way to clean up a drive of duplicate files or do I have to actually go in and find them all one at a time? They are in folders but some of the folders are obviously updated with more then the last time so I cant just wipe out whole folders |
arent computers fun!

What happens if you sort them by date? Then you can maybe highlight and delete all the ones you put on before?
|
That happened to me one time
I spent about 10 minutes going one by one before reevaluating how much I needed all that crap in the first place |
it should have named them something like (1) or copy filename
do a search for copy and delete all the files that come up, or wutever nomenclature they share in common. select all, delete. |
problem is they were on his drive in a folder called MP3 then sub divided from there, now I have 2 of each folder but some of them are obviously updated.
|
if they have the same filename, control x, then make a new folder control v.
Do it again with the other folder, select replace. if they have different filenames, then i would assume it gave them something in common in the nomenclature..... ie (copy of) if thats the case, do a search and delete all the files with "copy" in the title. From your last post i am guessing the first one applies? |
if the new folder has all that the old one did plus more just delete the old one?

go to downloads.com and get system mechanic 5. It has a program on it that searches for duplicate files and unused ones.
