88 chevy truck, 4x4, 350, new trans, doesn't run right now (fuel pump). I got to put ~80 miles on it so far, sure is nice sitting up high but sucks getting 13mpg.

Anyone ever replace a fuel pump on one of these before? I know I have to drop the tank but that's about it. Nice thing about these trucks is every thing is like 3 bucks and the parts are always on the shelf.

vosko 12-23-2003 11:00 PM

looks good if i could find a decent cheap one. i would have one of those already!

setzep 12-23-2003 11:01 PM

Can you tell it's 14 degF outside? :(

vosko 12-23-2003 11:13 PM

no i can't....... its like 50 here today

i'm on the prowl for something to replace the blazer just because i don't want to kill the trans towing with it!

i saw the new nissan titan truck is cheap! and it can tow 9900lbs!!!!!!

i might have to look into that like $20k for a fullsize pickup new after rebates and crap https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR

setzep 12-23-2003 11:22 PM

20k ain't bad for that! But I like my $900 truck https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

BigTurbo74 12-23-2003 11:23 PM

nice truck!

setzep 12-23-2003 11:28 PM

thanks, now I just have to push the heavy bastard in to the heated garage so I can start working on it.

Rob x-7 12-24-2003 10:16 AM

engine?

Yay! Old Chevy trucks! Here's mine--'85 Silverado C30 dooley.

Hey, I wish I got 13 mpg. That's pretty good. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

ah, either way its pretty straightforward, but it is a older chevy truck

so the lines might be in rough shape.

TheCamel 12-24-2003 10:38 AM

honestly on that model it is easier to pull the bed off, leave the tank in place, just remove the 6 or 8 bolts that hold the bed to the frame, buy a 12 pack, invite a few buds over, lift the bed onto the rear tires and you have all the access you need for the fuel pump.

Rob x-7 12-24-2003 10:46 AM

I would think on a 1988 pick up the bolts for the bed would be

in rough shape?

Rob x-7 12-24-2003 10:48 AM

dropping the tank isnt THAT bad by the way, not all manufacturers

are so kind as to give you a access door to the tank so alot of them

have to be dropped.

Baldy 12-24-2003 10:50 AM

nice find!

I really want a Bronco. I used to drive one at work. 4WD, great turning radius, removable top, back seat, cargo space, towing capacity, ground clearance, and that awesome green color that our agency painted them. I think I could get one cheap at a state auction.

1Revvin7 12-24-2003 12:55 PM

Nice, now give me the teg for $700... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

setzep 12-24-2003 01:07 PM

Yeah, it's got the intank pump. In 87 they started to fuel inject them and got rid of the mechanical pump that bolted to the engine. Taking the bed off might be a option but I know those bolts aren' in the best shape, I'd hate to break off a couple. I already have the tank strap bolts soaking in WD-40 so that should help out a bit. If it doesn't I'll just have to take the torch out and cut the straps off https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Thats a nice dooly you have there, 454? If so I bet that sucker gets 9mpg loaded or unloaded, thats what my buds 90 4x4 K3500 454 gets in the winter.

setzep 12-24-2003 01:09 PM

1revvin7- hah, yeah right! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png The truck will just be used to haul **** around and get me to work when it snows like a bastard. I'll keep driving the integra when the roads aren't totaly shitty.

vosko 12-24-2003 04:54 PM

$900 is a deal !!!! i only paid $580 for my blazer and it was worth every penny. i still want something that can tow https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Nope. Just a little ol' 350, coupled to a TH400 tranny. It pulled horse trailers in its former life, so the body and bed are in phenomenally great shape. On a good day, it gets 10 mpg.

setzep 12-27-2003 06:55 PM

Not a bad price on the blazer Vosko!

ahh, it's got the turbo 400 in it, the indestructible trans. Mine has the vulnerable 700r4 but it's rebuilt so we'll see how it lasts. Just measured my MPG and it's 13.33.

Well update on the fuel pump issue. I removed the tank instead of taking the box off, the box bolts didn't look like there were going to come out. It really wasn't that big of a deal to get the tank out. Now she's back on the road but the check engine light came on so I'll have to hook the scanner up to it. But all in all I have about 1100 in to the truck and it's working great and I even got to use it to haul some **** today https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png Also got to use the 4x4, got a little stuck in the snow. Nothng like driving around and getting bad mileage, I feel like a true american now. haha

86se7en 12-27-2003 07:02 PM

i want that truck!! actually i was looking in autotrader today and i seen it and i was gonna call the guy but then i was like that looks like the truck setzep bought so i didnt even call. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif

setzep 12-28-2003 08:11 PM

haha, I called the day I saw it online and when I looked at the next day he said he had 10 calls on it! I was the first to look at it but another guy called and said he'd give $800 and come get it with a trailer, he turned him down. I said I'll give 900 and tow it home, he bit. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png
