Wow. That's pretty cool. Wonder how she does on fuel?

phinsup 09-24-2010 08:03 PM

Personally I don't think a rotary is the best fit for a boat, but it's still pretty cool.

triple 2400hp diesels, the size of these motors were incredible, I was in awe of the engine compartment

could not even get it in one photo

Dude!

That is seriously nuts.

Money much?

phinsup 09-29-2010 06:28 PM

you should see the engine on the 115 foot yacht in the marina right now, it's guy who owns the hotel and marina. They were doing oil changes. Only takes 4 50 gallon drums of oil to do an oil change LOL The engine room has 3 dedicated ac units, it's ****** awesome!!

Rob x-7 09-29-2010 06:41 PM

That boat was tiny, only a 85' I was in that engine compartment when it was 90 degrees with 95% humidity, it was like being in a air conditioned room!

Speaking of that oil change- goes to show you if they GAVE you the boat you could afford to keep it. That boat I was working on holds 5000 gallons of fuel "so yeah you can use the boat, just fill the tanks"

I painted its sister ship next to it in this picture, a 33' Hydrosports with triple 300 verados, and it was a ******* dinghy next to the tribute. We were making repairs in the tribute from the fire suppression system that someone had accidentally triggered.

Yup when we were in our old marina and diesel was through the roof, I watched one of the bigger yachts take $28,000 in fuel... HOLY ****!

Rob x-7 09-29-2010 07:28 PM

"will that be cash or charge"

Baldy 09-30-2010 07:55 AM

Is there a big market for diesel mechanics? With these things swimming around in money, I'd imagine it'd be like having a full-time pit crew.

phinsup 09-30-2010 08:48 AM

It's not what I would call a "big" market, there's plenty of work available, but it's not a huge demand.

Rob x-7 09-30-2010 01:32 PM

diesel guys around here might as well be brain surgeons

TYSON 09-30-2010 10:49 PM

If you want to be a diesel mechanic move to Alberta or Saskatchewan and you'll be buying one of those in no time.

Rob x-7 10-01-2010 06:08 AM

keep in mind that people who own boats like that can be difficult to work with. Most times you will be dealing with their captains but they are also under the gun

YOU DON'T GET RICH BY WRITING A LOT OF CHEQUES!!!!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683329.gif

phinsup 10-01-2010 06:50 PM

I'm dealing with french canadians on a boat right now and I CANNOT wait to be done with them LOL They do pay me quite well, but jesus are they a pain in the ass!!!
