I'm salivating over this 2.5RS Sedan in NNJ, anyone wanna go look at it for me? Haha. Here it is -- RS Club Link
Has anyone ever bought a car sight unseen?? |
It says Subaru on it, if that doesn't stop you nothing will anyway! haha
|
if it was my $8000 I would take a weekend to go look at the car.
I also dont know what those cars are worth, but that thing looks like it has had a hard life. |
I could never do it. I see there are a bunch of dings all over the body. Car's probably been beat to **** every which way. At least it's a Jersey car. We all know that there are no dishonest people in NJ. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.gif

I would NEVER buy anything for over a couple grand that i hadn't already seen. |
I've done it twice. First time was a resounding success. The second time was a complete disaster. The third and fourth times I went and checked the car out myself.

flew to los angeles.. drove her back to jersey.. |
I've made a few big purchases over the telephone/internet. One of those was a car and I had the owner take it to a dealership to have it inspected. The inspection ran somewhere around $150 but the assurance it provided was well worth it.

Horror stories abound!
So then, talk me out of this...I want a fun daily to replace my Eclipse. 4 doors would be economical and fun... Vosko -- do you have much experience with Subarus? |

Steve We're talking about buying cars, not your sex life. |
Twice and both were at each end of the spectrum.
The first was Tony Farkas' 87GTR from TeamFC3S, the pics in the for sale add were probably 5-6 years old and the car was a total disaster, I was so pissed I sold it for a 2K loss. I thought I was buying a finished product and what I got was a total POS that had to be redone from top to bottom. The second was the 911 in my sig. I found it in an online for sale add and it was located in Kansas City, I contacted the owner, I sent a refundable deposit, and arranged for a local Porsche shop to do an inspection of it. The inspection cost me $300 and was worth every penny. (FYI - I had done this with 3 911's prior to this one and they all failed the inspection with bad engines) The shop faxed me a detailed checklist with all kinds of information on it. It even had compression test results and leakdown test results. The car got a 9.5 out of 10 overall and this was due to some rock chips on the front hood and bumper. I flew up to Kansas City and drove it back to Florida, I have sinse put close to 20K miles on it in 2 years and it has never given me a problem, it was everything the owner and shop that inspected it, said it was. My advise to you is to get an inspection, its called a PPI or Pre Purchase Inspection. This will reveal any problems without you having to waste time going to look at it. Plus a shop will be more thorough than you or a friend could ever dream to be. Best money you can spend in my book. |

Don't do it!
"There are a couple dings here and there, nothing major though. The car was rear ended and fixed by the Previous Owner." okay, so it has been wrecked! repainted and dented again! ". I bought the motor from a guy that swapped his car. " Okay, it has been wreck and blown up... but "a guy" swapped out a used motor and now it is okay? I don't know, your choice... but 8 grand is a lot to spend on a used wrecked, blown up (none WRX or STI) auto... now I do agree with you, that is the best of the body styles... but it at least should be an old style WRX for $8k. Good Luck! |

Good Luck! Yeah I'm not going for that one at all. The one I really wanted had a deposit on it within 24 hours. So if you know anyone with a 2.5RS sedan...lemmeknow. Haha. Thanks for the words of wisdom!! |
