Baldy 12-11-2009 01:24 PM

Yeah, shift your hatred to Chip Foose or those Orange County Chopper jokers.

89 Rag 12-11-2009 02:50 PM

I dont mind Chip Foose, but you almost have to be drunk to say "Orange County Choppers" outloud

Are you sayin' that Baldy's been hittin' the sauce?

89 Rag 12-11-2009 03:07 PM

The typed word leaves so much to the imagination, I dunno if Baldy hits the sauce, but I'm sure some of those chopper builders are hammered on thier design builds, YIKES!

Maxt 12-11-2009 07:11 PM

Chip foose has talent, but he is stuck in a rut when it comes to design..

The orange country chopper guys, they must make a **** load of cash, every scene , they are driving a different new vehicle. They had paul jr in 3 different suv's in the same episode.. To be honest, I hate the whole chopper thing, its like ok start with frame and hang trinkets cut out of polished alumiunium on the biike, insert stock engine, and electrics, collect 50k and start all over again... Its such a tired concept.

Maxt 12-11-2009 07:14 PM

I think Boyd had to be a Dick to make ends meet in that business.. You had to wring out the best in people while putting up with their crap. The thing I didn't like about it him, was he didn't exactly pitch in physically when the jobs were on the line.. People only work as hard as the boss.

i remember seeing a foose car in an 89 issue of hot rod, he's been around a LONG time.... i really liked that car though, super subtle

Rob x-7 12-12-2009 06:54 AM

Guys like Foose- it gets harder and harder to come up with something to top your last project, but imagine how awesome to take something you like and be known global for it

plus one.. however his recent catering to the new bling fads have me questioning his direction...

75 Repu 12-13-2009 07:18 PM

I agree, hes been gettin a little too bling lately.

89 Rag 12-16-2009 04:25 PM

I don't know how you can keep cranking out cars and call them "innovative" when referring to thier design. The paint jobs can be very different from car to car, but the subtle smoothing of design elements is the same basic outcome, no matter what hunk of iron they roll in. I think overexposure is killing the realm of custom bikes and hot rods, too many people can buy, see, touch and smell it. When it was rare and cars and bikes from "top guys" were scarce, it just seemed better that way.

75 Repu 12-18-2009 04:02 PM

ditto.. now all these shops are getting televised, and the term "ONE stop shop" is soo common.. might as well buy a turnkey car in that case.. Thats why i like reading about garage built cars, and collaborations between family and buddies over some beer and meat while wrenching non the damn thing.

yonner 12-19-2009 02:46 PM

this is what its like in the uk there has never been a big hot rod scene so the guys who buuild them do it in there sheds exept we have tea n crumpets none of your beer and meat carryon

Nothing against anyone from the UK, but beer and meat kicks tea n crumpets' ass.

Rob x-7 12-21-2009 07:50 PM

man what the **** is he saying?

garage car, come on now.

If that "garage" car turns into some huge hit out goes the garage and in goes the reality show and the car wax commercials.

They take it to the extreme and reap the benefits.

A car is a car, dont matter if it was done in a million dollar shop or a dudes basement, when its sitting in the middle of the show how can you tell the difference?

GreyGT-C 12-21-2009 08:11 PM

nevermind Yonner... that's just the crumpets talking.

I agree that all the hot rod builders are building cookie cutter cars now, and not a whole lot seperates one from the other. I do enjoy watching Foose work though, since he actually touches the car a lil bit and designs it. That, and even though they've all "sold out", they've have to be idiots not to. People buy what they have seen. The guys on OCC are about the big bunch of morons i've ever seen handle a wrench, but since people see them on tv, people spend $100k+ on a POS bike worth $10k. Tv is telling people to buy that bike, people are sheep.

thats just cause they use unibits!

Maxt 12-22-2009 08:08 AM

Occ isn't interesting to me because it has no actual technical depth to it. For that reason I don't even know why its on discovery, it doesn't teach anything insightful. Its a semi drama about gruff doofuses hanging ornaments on a prefabbed bike. They may as well have 4 old ladies bitching about their husbands decorating christmas trees as a show. Rides, and Boyds show is not actually to much above this, its always about the big drama surrounding the build as they feverishly work down to deadline of SEMA. The lack of time being their own fault. All that and the lack of real technical discussion is the often the reason I have to turn those shows off after 3 minutes.

Maxt 12-22-2009 08:10 AM

Yonner, do they have Haggis stands on the street corners in the UK? Is there fast Haggis? McHaggis?

Rob x-7 12-22-2009 03:17 PM

I have not watched OCC too much in the last few years, but when I did I at least noticed they are doing more in-house.

Even had their own frames, making their own tanks, their own painter, and were using their CNC machine alot.

Maxt 12-22-2009 11:08 PM

yeah but the don't talk about any of it on the show, nothing about fork rake, or tank design etc etc.. Its just oh Paul Junior got sand in his vagina, and Mikey's to much of an idiot to wipe his own bum etc etc ...

The show I do miss is Junkyard wars.

89 Rag 12-23-2009 01:28 PM

Mikey has an alcohol issue so I hear, which is fitting, 'cause I would have to be smashed to deal with that fam on the day to day, otherwise I'd swallow a bullet.

Hopefully all this custom **** will follow the natural cycle, people will stop watching, the shows will go away on tv, and the headlining car shows around the world will become exciting again.

Rob x-7 12-23-2009 06:07 PM

I watch those other guys also , the ones from the other side of the pond where they buy some older car and the other guy in the garage spray paints it a bit and compounds it, but its funny to listen to how they explain it all "a new bonnet was 250 quid"

And I catch that Chasing Classic Cars show with that dude Wayne.

Maxt 12-25-2009 09:21 AM

Looks like the trailer trash empire is self imploding..

OCC is stupid, those bikes are junk, i bet you couldn't ride them 250 miles without being a cripple at the end of ride. Junk yard wars was ok, but still the whole junkyard thing was a little lame, i mean they ALWAYS found exactly what they needed. LOL just once I wanted one of them to be like "there's nothing to build a submarine in this junkyard" and then make something out cardboard. never watched boyd, i do like a lot of the work foose does.

Not exactly what I had in mind, but I guess if someone swallowed enough un-fired shells the lead would eventually do it, maybe i can get a federal grant to study this..
