Hey, before you replace this thread ni a diff section, i dont mean it as a serious thread but i got into an arguement with my friend and he's telling me smallblocks and big blocks are no different other than gas mileage, just as easy to tune, and have the same reliability.
I say differently but i really dont know that much as domestic engines are completely out of my element. Anyways help me out with any info you guys might have. |
it always depends, but i think he has an argument...

This is one of those topics that can be discussed until the sun comes up. If you want your boinger to turn, use a well-built SB, if you just want to go straight or you've got a truck, go for the BB.

if you've ever seen em side by side the big block is a lot bigger, and since its iron like a battleship its heavy.

mmmmm 454 BB..
Yup.. Gas mileage I guess would suck.. heck stock they were getting like 11 or less.. A bored out small block might spend less but I think there are so many variables since cams and carbs can also play a role in that.. |

heck stock they were getting like 11 or less.. I'm workin' on a Ford SB (5.0 roller motor). Thinkin' bout' puttin' it in my Ranger. FoMoCo parts are so expensive!!!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif |
1/2 Chevy, 1/4 Ford and 1/4 MOPAR guy here. Big Blocks in most muscle cars handle even worse than their Small Block counterpart, but thr BB makes LOTS more power. Bigger heads=better flow=engine better pump
|
LOL! I think the BB's were made for the 1/4 Mi. @ a time. Unless they were in a truck.
BTW: 60% Ford---30% Chebby---5% Rotary Freak---5% Moparts (only muscle cars)= 100% car enthusiast. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png |
We can go on about the whole BB SB thing but once you smoke the rears of a Hemi, you won't want anything else. LOL

Small blocks can be upwards of 434 ci and big blocks can be smallish like 352 ci. While the engines might be referred to as "small" or "big" the term is more or less relative unless you are going by what the manufacturer classifies the engine as.

434??? I thought there was a 440. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif Or was that a HP rating? Yeah right. I wanna 440 SixPak.... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683329.gif

Oh. I hadn't seen that yet, but I'll check it out. The military was curteous enough to give is 2 new rentals when I went to Cali a few weeks back...1 was a new 4.7L Ram. The other was the new Hemi Ram. I wasn't really that impressed, though. We topped them out 2! 4.7L did 105 & Hemi did 110. I think...it's either that or the other way around.
