Dead Kennedys, Agent Orange, Choking Victim, and Minor Threat. How could nobody say these bands? Minus Choking Victim, not too many people know about them. All these bands had a message, and that message was to fight for your rights. So where did the beastie boys get that song from? Aha, there you go. Oh yeah, and The Velvet Underground, Frank Hell and The Voidoids,X-Ray Spex,The Germs. And the ramones did not start punk, nor did the sex pistols. Can anyone guess who did?

In my opinion there wasnt even real punk till the early 80's DC stuff.

Minor Threat of coarse.

They ARE punk. Everyone else is just trying to do what they did. Then of coarse Ian moved on with Fugazi which really isnt punk but just as good. At least that was true for the East Coast. New Yorkl bands in the 80's didnt do it for me. But the same time out in Cali the Decendents were making up the west coast punk sound along with Suicidal Tendencies both are bands I like alot.

The Who the true god fathers of Punk rock/ Alternative music if you ask me. Then David Bowie followed that up. Oh and Ia shouldn't forget to mention the Davies bros band "the kinks"

Dead kennedys pretty much sucked as bad as the Misfits in my opinion. The Ramones which are a great pop band but just because they wore leather and played CBGB's doesnt mean they are not a POP styled band.

Since then really the only band I would have even closely considered a good punk band would be "at the drive in"

Yeah, Staight edge hardcore. I always thought staright edge was more of a lifestyle. While the music was hardcore they also preached no drugs or alcohol. Its not like it matters though. I can't tell the difference. Murphys law and minor threat versus NOFX and pennywise? fast is fast, loud is loud, awesome is awesome.

True, but they really were not trying to "preach" so much as he was just talking about the scene in DC in the 80's and how he didnt fit in to the politics, drugs, and decadence.

Ah to be a teen in a Regan era DC.

I missed the 80's. I was a teen in a early 90's Bush senior DC.

Luckily for me Fugazi, Foo Fighters, Jaw Box etc are all local DC bands . And the music scene around DC is pretty good year round.

I used to love Blink 182 when I was in high school, but now they are at about the same level as Britney Spears.
