Got this pic today from one of my fathers shipmates. This was taken in Sept of 1975 when the USS Bluefish went to the north pole. That is my father appearing as the workds skinniest Santa

awesome pic!
i read the title as "banzai is related to SATAN!"
It looks kinda cold up there.
BTW, how hard is it to pop a sub up through that ice? Looks like it would break something. |
Call me crazy, but Im pretty sure a sub couldnt break the ice at the north pole. Im gonna go ahead and say thats not REALLY the north pole, but probably somewhere in antarctica. *shrug*
how could it not be? it says it right there on the pole even geez..
They do surface at the pole and have been since 1959.
The Sail of the sub is specially designed to be "ice hardened" and the sail planes (on 637 class subs) have an under ice position. The trick is to use sonar to find thin ice and then the submarine very slowly increases its bouyancy to "break thru" the ice |
Cool picture!
I was always under the impression that the ice that far inland was VERY thick. Then again Im thinking about the south, antarctica.... hmm... nevermind what Ive said! lol
you do know the original santa wasn't a fat bastard. that image was made by cokecola. cool picture
