So i find it unlikely anyone would but im thinking about taking it up for a little while. Im gonna get a cheap board off ebay and see how i like it. Although the vert will be useless going to the beach to surf, damn board is as long as car almost. There goes that plan..

Have any good tips or anything? Its all new to me

how tall are you and how much do you wiegh?

Need a board that will float fast for you. The biggest trick after learning to stand is understanding that you may want to belly board it along the wave. For years in small surf I always took off straight and got up and did a big bottom turn only to stall. It wasnt until the light went on that I realized that you will be going along the wave even during your stand up. But this is after you get the standing to the beach thing 1st.

Im 5' 10" and around 155ish. Looking at boards has been the hardest part everyone recommonds different lenghts and all types. So im not really sure where to go with that.

try a 6'2 thruster or quad. Today boards are sqash tail...my day it was swallow tail.

I do a little bit, but its on my father's 8' board from the 60's. now thats an experience, you can stand up on it in flat water, but to get it going you need to be paddling for about a minute before the wave reaches you

i have surfed for a few years, and from experience the best way to get started is to go with a foamer.

there is a brand called softtop, or something to that effect, which is not really sacrificing anything but doing extreme tips, and they are not too expensive, and super easy to ride. plus, you dont have to wax them. eventually you will want to move to an all fiberglass board, but for right now, one of those is great for pciking up almost anything. I would reccomend anything over 9 feet, because one, it is a total confidence booster and two, a huge learning expereince to be able to pick up almost any wave you see, which is possible with those kind of boards.

word of caution: when out in the water with a larger board, dont say ANYTHING about catching more waves than people with smaller boards. its bad manners. plus it is likely that the **** will be kicked out of you. some surfers are a little high strung. other than that, you should be god to go. post any questions, this is kinda fun
