would care to explain to me the difference between "regular" cdrs/cdrws and silver cds. a guy i work with, reads too much and worse, believes too many things he reads, and keeps telling me that the silver are better, and that they wont skip, and sound is like the original recording, blah, blah, blah.

is that right?

I used to burn tons of CD's - games, pr0n, movies, pr0n, music, pr0n, etc. In my experience I've found that the ones with a blue underside hold up better, like the older Imations. I have a very selective headunit in my car, and the dash can get quite hot on long trips. Eventually all my music cd's will skip because of the way I treat them, but the blue ones hold out the longest. Same for my psx, it's one of the first ones when they came out, so the lens is very selective on what it decides to play. I've learned to stay away from Maxell and any of those 'storebrands' like compusa or worse (the ones w/o any labels) even if they are practically free.

TDK, Mitsui, and Imation are all :bigok:

cdr's are just one time recordable

cdrw's you can re-use over and over again.

the silver worked great for me but so did the black, and the blue.

its pretty much all the same ****.

if you are just gonna be using them mostly for music it really doesnt matter.

there are some really really cheap ones out there where the silver coating flakes off and it skips alot but that is like the no name brand valu pack of like 500.

just get some memorex or tdk's or something to that effect.

I burn a ton, There is a difference in the cd's, but I have never noticed any sound quality differences. I don't play any original CD"s, but that's because I am VERY hard on my cd's.



The only real quality difference is, the silver CD's are less likely to be damaged by heat and sunlight, that is the only one that I really know of. I think the sound quality difference is a scam, but I do know the theory behind it. They claim that the darker cd absorbs a certain amount of the laser where the siler doesn't, yad, yada, yada... like I say I think it is pretty much BS, they weren't getting any money for the dark bottoms ones so they came up with a scam to charge more LOL

Cd's are a very smelly inefficient source of energy!

I never noticed any difference in sound quality either, the actual durabilty of the cheaps brands is what usually tells them apart for me.. I had some cheap brands before and they would get scratched real easy and skip...

The scratches have very little effect on heat output...

we put them in the paper shredder

I tried that once, it didn't work very well, cause it was a small shredder..
