Teen killed by shovel in odd game with car

WINNIPEG - A 14-year-old boy died almost instantly after he was struck in the head during a bizarre game involving a stolen car and a shovel, Winnipeg police say.



Duty Insp. Jack Tinsley said a group of teens stole a Chrysler Intrepid and went joy-riding late Saturday night, and then began playing a game in which a shovel was thrown into the car through the open windows each time it came around the block.



During the fateful round, the shovel hit Rodger Ledger in the head, Tinsley said. The group panicked and left Ledger for dead, Tinsley said.



"There is a question of intent," he said. "We'll be going to the Crown on this to see what charges are appropriate."



Tinsley said the death is being labeled a homicide, Winnipeg's fifth of the year.



A police officer found Ledger in the back seat of the abandoned car in an empty field on Selkirk Avenue just before 5 a.m. Sunday.



The officer attempted to revive him, but Ledger was pronounced dead at the Health Sciences Centre soon after, Tinsley said.



Tinsley said the officer who discovered Ledger was in the area on an unrelated matter when he came across the stolen vehicle.

I could give you some stupid US citizen ****, the dude that won the darwin awards 3 or 4 years ago was in my state.
