So, this BBQ.. it's 700 miles from my house. I figure that's about $120 in gas each way. Can I make that drive by myself in one day, in an FD? Should I be concerned about getting my radar detector fixed? Should I consider re-installing the cat and airpump for this trip? Is my neck really that fat? Is this a one day event, or should I plan on a whole weekend/monday?

You should go. Yes fix the radar detector. No your neck is not that fat. Make it a weekend.

700 miles is a little over 12 hours, do routine maintenence before you leave, keep spark plugs, coolant, water, oil, tools, etc with you and you'll be fine. I made the 600 mile trip in my 7, which was a run down peice of ****, four times, you'll be fine.

Good call.. but what's the difference between 700 city miles and 700 highway miles? I don't carry tools around in the city; I've never understood why I should carry them on a road trip? coolant and oil I get though..

yeah but in the city you wont be stranded in the middle of nowhere like ou probably would be if you broke down on the way to tulsa. plus the car will be running at a somewhat high rpm for a long time, which could bring up problems that you dont see in short, everyday city driving

In city driving my speed is all over the place, and it's always at high RPM.. from 3rd gear at 60 to the top of fourth are my crusing speeds! I guess it's more of a rhetorical question.. but I understand the middle of nowhere part. The best way to put miles on a car is steady cruising at highway speeds. The engine isn't working hard, just keeping the car rolling. Stop and go city driving is the worst. If the car is in good shape, you shouldn't have any trouble.
