How do you guys like it? I made those for another vendor but now he disappeared so I decide to start selling those myself. It's a bolt -on. Fully enclosed unlike all the other aluminum air boxes out there. Gets cold air from the slot between the radiator and the chassis like the M2 and Pettit Racing cold air intake. Comes with 2 K&N filters. The ones you guys getting will have beads welded on the pipes so the filters will not fall off like the M2. I will make some special tinted Lexan covers so you can inspect the filters without taking off the covers. The price will be the following:

1-3 orders: $450

4-6 orders: $420

7-9 orders: $390

10+ orders: $370

optional black tinted cover: $30

The air boxes will be done 2 weeks after the group buy. The group buy deadline is 2-28-03.

Chuck, will this fit with the M2 (i.e. ASP Racing) Large Intercooler?

Also, will it fit the M2 hardpipes for the M2 box? (I bought the hardpipes to fit the m2 box but never got the m2 airbox cause I didn't want CF)

The intake box will fit with the ASP or M2 large intercooler. If you have the m2 hardpipe kit, make sure you have the one that works with the m2 air box. If you have that one, you will be ok.

I may be interested if we can get enough people. Is the finish on these reasonable clean (not too many scratches)? Are the welds touched up at all?

Regards,

Frank

PoMan Ferrari 01-09-2003 04:51 PM

Yep, I do have the pipes for the M2 box.

My next concern, are they going to be polished up?

I'm definitely leaning towards one if they're polished.

PoMan Ferrari 01-09-2003 04:53 PM

It shouldn't be that hard to get them polished... You put them into an industrial sized tumbler with tumbling media and after a few hours of tumbling around, they're polished.

Flyrx7 01-09-2003 11:35 PM

Man, it's not even the middle of January and we would have to wait until the middle of March to get these? Any way this can be sped up?

Frank

I think one short fat filter would be better and easier to work with (similar to Knightsports). Both M2 and Tri-Point filters are known to fall off and are cheapy. HKS (in gold) and Blitz (in silver) make a stubby fat metal mesh filter. That will the lexan cover would be bad ass. :bigok:

I have more pictures. Go to http://www.rotaryextreme.com/coldair.html

The finish is brushed aluminum. The welds are grinded down. You will see all of of those at the above link.

If you want it to be polished, it will be $75 more. The polish place I go to does decent job but not super nice job. If you want to see his work, go to http://www.rotaryextreme.com/engine.html to see some photos of the polishing job he did for my engine.

I need to have at least 5 peoeple before I can start on the batch. Once there are 5 people, it will be started and takes about 2 weeks to get them done.

The HKS or the Blitz filters are too big to fit in the box and they are very expensive as well. If you use those kinds, the air box will only work with the stock width intercooler.

I know that you guys are interested but don't want to pay full price like the tightwad you guys really are so I'm going to step up to the plate and order one. I like the Aluminum box cause it's solid and shiny ...

OK, we need 4 more ...

rx7machine 01-20-2003 11:54 PM

bump bump.. is this group buy still going??

rx7machine 01-20-2003 11:59 PM

I know I've heard many times before that the M2 carbon fiber boxes

don't hold up as good as the aluminum boxes.. but wouldn't the aluminum

ones add even more heat to the engine bay? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif just curious..

rx7machine 01-21-2003 12:00 AM

But don't get me wrong.. yours do look good. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

rotaryextreme 01-21-2003 12:57 AM

Aluminum doesn't really hold that much heat. Besides that, the air will be going in so fast that it won't be heated up. The group buy is still going on and the deadline is 2-28-02. Email rotaryextreme@aol.com if you would like to join. Thank you.

Ok, so how many people have you got so far?

rotaryextreme 01-27-2003 04:26 AM

No one emails me. No one prepays. Hmmm.. everyone got an intake already?

Chuck, count me in for one. I haven't paypal you b/c I thought you're waiting for a head count of 5 or more. If we have less than 5, what is the point of me paypaling you?

Humm.. still thinking..

rotaryextreme 01-28-2003 01:23 AM

I hate to think those intakes in the pictures will be the only 5 that I ever make. I do need you guys to give me at least some kind of deposit before I work on those. I don't want to be sitting on those if I can't sell any. So for now, I need just $100 deposit. When the group buy is over, we will count how many heads we have and the remaining balance will be calculated from that. When the intakes are done, you will pay for the remaining balance and the intake will be going your way. How does this sound??

I will be starting to make a lot more performance parts for the RX-7 but if I can't sell any, I guess I will just keep selling bodykits. =(

This is the best cool air box hands down.

It is aluminum, it is fully enclosed therefore it is a real cool air intake and the back lid can be unbolted.

Importance you ask????

If you go to a single turbo set up, you can just unbolt the back lid and add another one to accept the single hose intake.

I had the M2 aluminum, sold it and got me one of these for my TO4E. Yes, I know I could have modified the M2, but it was just too much trouble, $$$ and not worth the effort.

The Carbon Fiber ones that I have seen, just don't hold well, the aluminum back lid doesn't look good or blend and the other aluminum cool air box is open at the top and back lid is welded.

I bought it out of the GB since I don't like waiting for things.

Sorry guys. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...

ZeroBanger 02-28-2003 10:07 AM

It looks like the same design as this:

http://autoparts.zoovy.com/product/1004

Whats the difference other than this one has powder coated frame and brushed aluminum top?

Just curious.

rotaryextreme 02-28-2003 10:40 AM

There are only a few minor differences:

1. The box I have is fully enclosed except for the duct which draws cold air from the nose. The rx7 fashion box you have is not fully enclosed so hot air can get in from that hole on the side

2. The very top is flat so it will not rub the hood liner

There is actually a lot of fabrication to close that hole. A lot of custom sheet metal bending, welding, and sanding. Looke how weird that shape is. That's where the extra is coming from.

If I want to make something, I want to make sure I can improve on the existing products so I have a competitive advantage. RX-7 Fashion also makes nice stuff too. =)
