I'm SOOOOOOO TIRED!!!!

well... not everything went out as planned... I for one was about 30 mins late.

The day was pretty harsh for everyone... the heat, the traffic etc.. etc.. we didn't even start until mid afternoon!!

As soon as we pull in...

1. Toy's car was already strapped and waiting... made a couple of passes in his Cwest fitted GT35/40 powered FD... Since Toy just installed his 3 bar map sensor everything needed to be remapped on his power fc... after a couple of runs and swapping of plugs, the FD ran very very smooth according to Toy... some street drivability tuning was an option, but time wasn't in our favor... about 1.5 hour dyno

2. Next up.. ME...

Had some idle problems and boost issues... my HDR MBC, would not hold boost correctly... it was either in the area of 8 lbs or way over 14 lbs... so we left it at 8lbs until i get an electronic BC... best run was 280RWHP @ 8lbs... too bad I couldn't get more info.. i forgot what my torque was since the printer didn't work for the dyno... oh well.. in any case.. i'm very please with Steve's tuning... got A LOT of bugs out... runs very smooth on the street... i'm going to miss the back firing.. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png about 1hr dyno time

3. Tom S... dyno tuned his red FD running his twins... but i wasn't there for it.. i was too hungry... he can post his numbers if he wants.. i think @ 1.5 dyno

4. Tom and his black FD running haltech the the last to get onto the dyno... after over an hour of dynoing we where forced to leave... right in the middle of Tom's session...

well.. i'm a little upset that we couldn't get everyone on the dyno and get tuned... everyone went through hell to get there and had the patiences to wait... withstand the heat, the traffic etc...etc..

we had a couple more cars left...

sorry if i forgot your names...

Keith's FD

Silver FD

RX-3

finish Tom's FD

all in all.. we ending up leaving at around 9pm with only 4 cars done...

Hopefully, we can finish the rest of the guys on saturday's session... I know tom may see steve today and do some street tuning...

well.. i have pics but not uploaded yet... i'm at work.. i'm beat.. that was a very long drive and my one arm is hurting from sun burn... now i have to clarify tomorrow's session...

well.. thanks for everyone that made it and very sorry to the people that couldn't get time in...

next... saturday session...

JaySpec7 06-27-2003 11:13 AM

BTW.. for people that are tuning on saturday...

BRING EXTRA PLUGS!!! that seemed to be an issue yesterday...

thanks to keith for lending his plugs out...

rx7machine 06-27-2003 11:18 AM

Sounded like fun. Any pics?

vosko 06-27-2003 12:06 PM

glad to hear you got some cars done, atleast there is today and saturday steve can tune cars

Toy 06-27-2003 02:19 PM

i got home at 4:45 this morning and still going...i'll be back down again for rotorfest and also because Steve wants to do a little street driveability tuning then.

although i lost a couple of horsies, the car still feels just as fast, mainly because of how smooth it operates now. yesterday wasn't exactly the most ideal day to play the hp numbers game anyway...most importantly though is that i left there with a little peace of mind. give me some sleep and a few days to recover and i'll say it's all well worth it. just can't do it right now.

thanks to everyone there yesterday for helping me out and keith for those plugs.

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683894.gif Steve, good job.

see everyone sunday.

JaySpec7 06-27-2003 02:32 PM

man... I don't know how your doing it.. i was dying at work.. and I slept!! got home a little after 1am...

Great to see you coming back on sunday and glad everything went well with you FD...

now i have to get the rest of the cars done for saturday... my cell phone won't stop ringing.. LOL all good though..

see ya sunday...

vosko 06-27-2003 02:33 PM

glad to see you are happy !!!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

wow , what a day for everyone! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blush.png i was not able to get done, nor will i because i ahev to much to do in my personal life. glad everyone that got to go was happy. that always makes me happy. i may not come off like that over the net, but i always try to put other people before myself with everything in my life. it makes me happy to make others happy.

i do get agrivated and pissed off though. one thing that bothered me about the day was the way a person (no names) was very *stand-off-ish* as the day went on. it was obvious to me that the person wanted to leave but *couldnt* and seemed very pissed off/agrivated. i took personal offence to this as i did EVERYTHING in my power to make the day go as smooth as possible. BUT... it didnt. sorry. it just seemed like you had a problem with me for some reason. jsut so you are aware...

there is nothing i can do about the late start, nothing i can do about other people not having their cars in proper working order prior to tuning, nothing i can do about how bad maps were in their car to begin with, nothing i can do if a car that never is driven for more than a 1/4 mile at a time needs to pull over for gas, nothing i can do about the extreme heat, nothing i can do about the late start, nothing i can do about *believing* someone that the directions i was given was a "shortcut" turning out to NOT be one AT ALL! (BTW, it took me about 40 minutes to get home driving about 55 MPH the whole way home, the way that i KNOW), nothing i can do about time, nothing i can do about a half hour dead stop traffic jam for construction, nothing i can do about being at someones HOME doing wide open throtle pulls and them wanting us to wrap it up for the day.

BUT what i did do was

1. provide a dyno that ended up costing only $300 for the day. (remember i had it booked from around 11am.... not from the 3ish PM that we got there)

2. go out of my way to pick up C16 for everyone (30 minutes each way and money out of MY pocket)

3. remeber to bring extra plugs (you look up the price on 11's) and a sarkplug cleaner tool

4. did not cry about going first and let others go...

5. brought man power that helped work on other people's cars KNOWING full well that there was no chance in hell they would get a turn.

i am not going to go on and on, just letting this person know that there WERE plans made ahead of time, and i tried my best. you told me that "you liked what i hear" when discussing the event in the planning stages, but seemed VERY agrivated durring the day. SOOOO.... i would just like to appologize for anything that i PERSONALY could have prevented that may have put you in a better *mood*...

maybe my perception of you was wrong, but i know a few other people that got the same vibes.

on a lighter subject. Steve is a great guy and seems to know what he is doing!! i just wish we had more time and there was no pressure on him to be done at a certain time. i cant imagine the pressure he was under. he didnt even show it. i REALY wish at least one of the cars i have set up a haltech in could have gotten done. Tom actualy popped his motor the day after (on friday) so i highly doubt he will be finishing his tuning session.

we will have to talk in the near future about doing another trip up. we definatly have enough cars in the area to make the 5 car minimum, and this time, maybe i can pick you up at the philladelphia international adn you can stay with me. from our short sparatic discussions, we should be able to do more cars quicker on the street....

thursday was definatly a good experience overall for me and i am glad everythign worked out for the other 3 guys. tom is another story.... and i highly doubt it is steve's fault at all. i have been in the car with that kid when he took the map i had set up in there up to 150+MPH and motor (and myself have) lived to talk about it. he probobly did another *TOM* move like crank the boost up to 20psi adn think its fine.... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

Steve it was realy nice to meet you, and as for all the other guys i met for the first time, it was a pleasure to spend a hot sticky sweaty day with you all! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

if this message doesnt make any sence, it is 4am after a Dead Show. going back tomorrow for day 2.... so sorry.

Who are the Dead? and why are they following me?! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif LMAO!!!

vosko 06-28-2003 09:33 AM

atleast everyone is alive! i didn't even get to go but i would like to say good job to keith and everyone else who tried to make it work. all i can say is **** HAPPENS make the best of it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

airbornerx7 06-28-2003 06:29 PM

**** certainly did happen vosko, and keith was impressive in keeping things together. helped that steve was very patient and really insisted on doing a thorough job with everyone, despite all kinds of pressure. he refused to 'blow off' anyone when many were suggesting he do just that. stand up guy right there.

when's steve getting to your car keith? i'd feel like **** if you got shorted.

thanks again

tom

vosko 06-28-2003 10:38 PM

i'll tell you. murphy's law is a bitch. the first time i dyno'd my car. boost controller freaked out. everyone saw it.... man that sucked. anyway. life goes on and everyone will learn. atleast mostly everyone is happy https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

JaySpec7 06-29-2003 12:21 AM

Keith... man... you did the best you could... did everything you could... I really wanted to see you make it up there... but being late and lots of things happened during.. we only got a few cars in...

the saturday meet seemed to be a bit better... we got 4 cars done... 2 where on there for at least 2 hours...

got there around 10:00 but had to wait for steve and rich til about 11:30 due to set backs or what not...

Jay got his run in.. but didn't the numbers he wanted... ran to 14psi then immediately dropped to 12psi.. boost would not hold.. not sure if it was a boost controller problem or WG spring... but Jay seemed to be happy after driving it around...

Ron was next... trying to get as much as possible w/ his T78... but his fuel pump wouldn't hold... pressure kept dropping rapidly as power increase.. I took my pump to see if that help.. but it was the same thing... Ron seemed happy with the tuning as well.. but couldn't get his goal to 20psi due to the pump problem..

Craig was after with his first gen... really nice setup!!! couple runs here and there... lots of tuning.. that thing was sick... but due to a heavy boost spike... resulted in a chipped seal... but steve can confirm this...

Dan then ran... looked great.. sounded great... but steve couldn't pull the right power... motor is going? over 40K on original motor...

all in all it seemed good.. the dyno shop was very very nice.. and the guys running the show where very helpful.. i'm def going back myself there...

but keith... let's keep in contact for further events...

pluto 06-30-2003 07:40 PM

Again, Thanks to Jay for setting up the saturday tuning session. Despite of a few minor setback, We were able to get all the cars that showed up done. I feel really bad about craig's car because I *might* have prevented it from happening if my concentration was a little sharper. For those who were wondering, I spent about 1.5hrs on his car trying to fix the map he had. Everything was great but the boost would keep at 10psi and creeped to about 17psi at 7000rpm. The car made 380rwhp. I mentioned to Craig that due to the erotic boost pattern, the map sensor was going crazy and doesn't know which fuel cell to go by (which will running rich and lean osillating back and forth). I told Craig to move the map sensor pick up point closer to the throttle body. In the mean time, he went ahead and reconfigure his manual bleeder valve setup for his boost control since we couldn't get it to control boost no matter which way we turn it.

We let the car cool down for about 10 mins, on the first pull in 4th gear, The boost pegged the 3bar map sensor (32psi). I figured it probably went to as high as 35-40psi before I could let off. According to the datalog, it spike from 12psi to maxed boost reading in 0.5 sec. Basically, the wastgate was completely shut. Injector duty cycle was 100% at 5500rpm. He was running 550cc primary and 1600cc secondary. I'm sure that the car was probably making close to 600rwhp when it happened and then popped.

I did offer Craig to help him rebuild his motor by just paying for the cost of parts since I'm partially guilty for letting it happened. I guess we'll see if he would accept it.

FYI, we were tuning these cars on a mustang dyno. If my memory serves correctly, there's a 10-15% difference between mustang dyno and dynojet #'s.

Based on the 116mph pull on Ron's car on the 1/4' run, he was making closer to 345rwhp then the reading of 325rwhp that was measured on the dyno at 11psi of boost.

It was real cool meeting you steve. I'll give you a yell once my half bridge setup is ready to go

vosko 06-30-2003 07:55 PM

this makes me love my blitz sbc-id even more.... it has overboost protection!

sorry to hear about anyones mishaps!

hopefully we can get a full day for steve to tune. i want to thank him for doing it even though i didn't get my car tuned. everyone i talked to was very happy. i saw you working your ass off at the BBQ. i was hoping you would enjoy yourself a little more! i did see you and boostn7 chatting over the laptop with the datalogit software on, after i re-introduced you guys https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

BigRon 07-01-2003 12:46 AM

Thanks again to Jay for setting the tuning session up and letting me use your pump! and a BIG THANKS to Steve for flying out here. I was most impressed with your tuning! We'll ht the 20psi next time, hopefully very very soon!

I was also happy to meet all you guys on Saturday. It was great to finally put a face to your screen names. Great bunch of people. Sorry I didnt make it to rotorfest, work was killin me!

Jay email me those mpegs of the dyno runs when u can.

Thanks
