Do you think that putting a rx-8 6-speed tranny in to a older rx-7 is worth it. or is a turbo tranny a better investment?
|
i was told the the rx8 tranny wasnt trong enouph to hold the older models. what i would like to know along with this is if the drive shafts would fit in the 13bt FC and FD? arent the CF?
|
the rx8 tranny is holding like 238 which is more than most NAs will ever see. none of the driveshafts are cf, and you have to have custom shafts made when doing this stuff
|
The 8 does have a carbon driveshaft...
|
hmm, didnt know that
|
Ha, it's ok, I didn't until I actually got the car and looked up more about the specs later on.

i tried looking for the goods that could be used when they first hit the net lol
That would make sense because it's a different car and would have different placement of such things and I believe they mounted the FE engine a little further back than in the previous RX-7s. |
This is another thread. They all say the RX-8 tranny sucks. May help.

I didn't realize the '8 had an LSD... wonder how one of those would work on a n FC...

5th gear on the FE tranny is the same as the 4th on FC trannys.
There is no real advantage of the RX-8 tranny, and 6th on the FE tranny is taller (.84 vs .71) than the FC, resulting in lower mileage. FE gearbox has 5th as its 1:1. The FE tranny is good for 250 realy base FE HP people that go past this are braking them alot. The FE gearbox is the same as the Miata 6-speed Compare the FE 164ft-lb to the S4 TII's 183ft-lb and the S5 TII's 196ft-lb. Suddenly an RX-8 gearbox a modified 13BT doesn't seem all that smart... RX-8 Gear Ratios: 3.76:1, 2.27:1, 1.65:1, 1.19:1, 1.00:1, 0.84:1 Final drive 4.44:1 |
Don't forget how much the 8 weighs. That is a big factor when it comes to the transmission failing.
