just got an '82 engine with pretty low miles and putting it in an 80 mg body. does anybody know anyone who has done similar? also any suggestions or comments would be appreciated. this project should start soon and hopefully be done by the summer. thanks

someone at my local autox has a MG with a 12A motor in it... He told me it was damn hard, you have to fab up a subframe from scratch and figure out how to make the engine mounts (stock location on the engine) work.

Like I said before about this subject.PM Jeff20B here and ask him.He has a carbed 13B in his MG.

All I did was to upgrade the '73 12A it had when I got it to a '74 13B.



From what I can tell you, the stock tranny mount of the MG can be used on a 1st gen tranny. The front cover mount of the 12A can be made to work with the stock tractor engine mount location. I think the watercooled oil cooler can be used, but an air oil cooler fits neatly behind the grill. The stock MG radiator can be removed and a '79-'82 (short style) radiator can be used quite effectively (with the lower hose mount relocated the the middle of the bottom tank). Just offset the oil cooler over to the driver's side (on USA spec left-hand drive cars) so the oil lines will clear the radiator. OR you could offset the rad to the passanger side. Either way, you'll see what I'm talking about when you start cutting into the stock MG rad mounting hardware.



If you can find a B2000 tranny, you can remove the tailhousing and install it onto the FB tranny. This moves the shifter location further forward so the stick comes up in the stock MG location (or very very close).



This is very basic info. I'd suggest you should spend some time boning-up before attempting such a swap.

hopefully it will be a bit easier since ours is an mgB. i think it has a bit more room under the hood. also we already have the mg engine out because we were going to put a ford 302 in. unfortunately, the engine got completely submerged when hurricane isabel came through. but i think it might have been for the better, now we'll have a nopistons powered mg. thanks guys
