i was thinkin bout a possible renesis swap into an fc???????? any input??? open for disscision or tips if anybody knows about it id like to kno if its a good idea. i was gonnaa try and find a beat to hell rx8 with an engine. right now i have a na 13b in my fc

its actually easier to put one into a 1st gen. i know because i did it. and i now its easier because i traded that 1st gen without the motor, and put the reni into my 2nd gen.

to have it sitting in an FC, you need to make custom motor mounts. no one makes these. also, the renesis is 2 inches longer than an older 13b. so problems occur with the steering rack being slightly in the way. and a custom made oil pan will be needed. and a pick up to go with it.

after its just sitting there doing nothing after all that fab work. the hard and exspensive work begins. i could make an extra pair of mounts if your serious about doing it. my mounts are almost done. i would just duplicate them.

if your interested, let me know...

I'm interested in doing the same thing with my FC convertible. Where did you get the motor? What was the cost? I thought about getting a wrecked RX8. Start it up and then start clipping wires to see what was necessary. After that, just transplant everything it needs including the computer. What did you do for engine management?

PS It's nice to be able to discuss this topic without being flamed because a TII swap or V8 swap would be easier.

Just for the sake of argument, why a renesis? You can make every bit as much power with the n/a engine in the car with bolt ons and a good port job, and still spend half what a renesis swap will cost. The only thing a renesis will really have over an older motor is cleaner emissions.

ijus fo a small sake of argument back it would be pretty cool puttin a lil new age rotary into an old age fc

to respond to mazdaspeed7...

to put down 238 flywheel (6 port renesis). you either need one hell of a bridge port, 4-port, S5 na rotors, ect. and aftermarket everything else. or a really nice PPort. neither of wich is quiet or nice as a daily driver. and will most likely last 1/10 of the miles before a rebuild is needed.

i got my renesis core for 300 bucks. given its a 4 port. its still makes 198 at the flywheel. equaling the TII in stock form. with tuning and upgrades im looking to put down 230-240 whp if i get a 6-port. 210-220 if i stick with the 4-port. wich rivals some NA full race rotary cars.

for the cost. i myself will be making the parts weather it was an older 13b or the reni. but i got the reni for 300. you cant get a TII core for 300. and then the cost of a rebuild kit is 1000, plus porting tools, plus pinning and the 9.7 rotors, balancing, ect... i think its cheaper to go with the renesis. especially if you go completely stock renesis. fab some mounts, a few other things and go.

more easily said. to equal STOCK renesis power. you need to fully build any other 13b or go turbo. i fully believe the renesis is far superior than any other rotary engine to date. maybe the 16x will take care of that...

oh...to sisyphus

its a lot harder than that. the rx8 motor is highly advanced. fly by wire throttle and so on. this is why im going completely custom. make a manifold, headers, add fuel system and a microtec...done.

plus im using a FC CAS and FD coils as of right now. im thinking of going aftermarket coils. but i have this set-up already just laying there keeping the cost down even more.

and one small other thing keeping me motivated to do this...

i have seen this asked a lot. and have only heard of one 1st in Japan running a renesis in stock form. im pretty sure i will be the first to add ITB's and full custom work to a renesis. and i might be the only one with a renesis actually in my FC. i've searched a few forums and no one has known of any other.

That hits home with me, Im a big fan of the less common swaps. I love to see someone do a nice swap you almost never see.

As for the hp thing, Ive seen a handful of streetported 6 port fc's running in the 190-200 whp range, and heard of more than one car at 205 whp, give or take a few hp. Hell, Kahren did 185 whp on stock ports with a standalone and custom intake manifold and full exhaust. He also tuned a S4 to 195 whp with a s-afc, full exhaust, intake, and a streetport.

The renesis is rated at 238, but in reality, the 6 ports usually put down in the 190-200 whp range stock. For all its improvements, the exhaust arrangement is strickly a noise and emissions thing. Its a restriction to better power numbers.

Bridges and PP's routinely put down in the 240-260 whp range in street trim, and upwards of 300 whp in race trim. Jesus Padillas all motor 13B was rumored to be making around 360 whp when he dominated the class a few years ago.
