I have an 89' GTUs, I was seriously considering buying a series 5, turbo engine for it from japan, any help on this would be nice, or should I just port a NA??

Thanks

Daiv

There is a HUGE amount of work to transfer the car from n/a to turbo. Would save you a lot of headaches and sweat if you just bought the turbo version https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/unsure.png

the money you put into the car you will not get back out.... i suggest buying a TII you can find them cheap if you look hard https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

i've got an 89' GTUs, and was gonna get a 91' turbo engine, why kind of work is involved?

vosko 08-05-2002 10:01 AM

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

you have a GTUs one of the rarest second gen's leave it alone!!!!! if you want turbo please sell it and buy a TII..... don't destroy a special car. you will also KILL resale value. you don't know how many people want GTUs they kick ass for N/A https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Well, the GTUs has a large ding on the passenger rear panel. and it would be best for turbo swap i figure, since it has many turbo II parts already. How much you think it coule be sold for with a big ding in the back??

vosko 08-07-2002 12:34 PM

$2000

vosko 08-07-2002 12:34 PM

what do you mean big ding ?

Daiv Makitsu 08-07-2002 09:49 PM

it got side swipped by a van, all near the gas door is hit, but you can still get gas just fine

I agree! Somebody will pay good $ for it. Use that $ to buy a TII. Post a pic of the damage.

vosko 08-08-2002 10:17 AM

where is the car located ?

1Revvin7 08-08-2002 09:00 PM

Well, obviously this man is set on converting the car, i know what its like, have fun, i'll be done within a month, just waiting for parts.

I'm with everybody else on this one, you should keep it n/a and port the motor. It's a cool car, congrats!

its not THAT much work guys... swapping a rearend and tranny at MOST will take a day. Putting the engine in can be done in under a couple of hours.... hooking everything up and wiring it would be done in a weekend if you were lucky. Its your car, do what you want. The 1989 GTUs isn't very rare, I see them all of the time, its the 1990 GTUs that is next to non-existent...

I'm with you. It's not a huge project. I've done it a few times. I know that the GTUs is supposed to be special, but it's nothing that can't be duplicated very easily.

vosko 08-09-2002 04:53 PM

kurgan your forgetting the point..... we want this guy to have a car that runs LOL

how many turbo converted cars run and last.... atleast if he gets a TII and blows the engine can just get another engine no biggie https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

I'm plannin on swappin a 89 tII engine into a 88 gtu... and I'm doin it cause the engine of the gtu is smokin everytime i rev it over 4000 rpms... i know that its not the apex seal cause its been doin this for a while now ... and i'm pretty sure that its the O rings.. cause i'm always puttin in more coolant and i don't have a leak and plus the smoke is white... am i right or wrong...

ohh and one more question.. what is the horse power and torque on a 88 GTU... and what should i be runnin on the 1/4 mile???
