im looking into different engine swap options for my starion and am really interested in a possible rotary swap i would just like some input from those who really know there stuff about mazda's rotary lineup. i know the basics behind the rotary engine and the way it works and its history but i dont know much about it in the performance area of things and its swappability (pardon my made up word). for those that dont know what a starion is it is a turbo 2.6L I4 rear wheel drive 188hp and 246 lbs of torque five speed tranny with factory installed LSD and weighs around 3400 lbs i love the car and the engine moves it really well its just that it doesnt have alot of aftermarket support and OEM replacement parts are growing scarce. the most common swap is to drop a V8 out of anything into the engine bay and be done with it i have seen 302's all the way to twin turbo LS1's inside of the car but i was thinking about something smaller and more economical. so if you guys could let me know what you think it would be greatly appreciated https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif

leave the same engine in it its a good engine, you can make some good hp with a few mods

or go wild with it

thats one of the cars i like !

well i cant imagine a 13B-T sucking as much gas as a large displacement V8, as for leaving the engine in i know its a strong engine but it really doesnt have an aftermarket and i know the kid that had it before me, he beat the living sh*t out of it and im not a real big fan of a full on rebuild of an engine that doesnt really have a future, as it sits it has the non jet head with the crappy TBI fuel system and a ecu out of the 88 version, really the only mods available besides a big ass turbo and forged internals are a set of cams. there just isnt alot out there for going fast with this engine. but either way its getting a new engine or im selling it and buying a muscle car

i seen a 13b in a clean ass starion before. i have always loved the starion/conquest car.

putting a motor in any car takes the same basic moves...

motor mounts, tranny mounts, wiring, and patience when things dont fit correctly.

get a TII motor and tranny. best bang for the buck engine in my opinion. mounts arnt really hard to do. get a drive shaft made. then all you need is to wire it up. go with a full stand alone. more $$$. buth worth it. microtech and haltech is what most people seem to use. but i got the plug and play Apexi Power FC from a FD (93 rx7) in mine. banzai-racing makes the kit to adapt it to the S4 86-88 and S5 89-91 harness.

oh....shave the weight down. a lot. rotarys dont have torque to pull that thing. unless to do a 20b. but you have to damn near be rich for that swap.

Are you a member of Starquest forums?

I am no expert on these cars but I love them.

I understand there are only 2 fuel injectors and the intake and head are less than desirable. I heard newer Eclipse heads and intakes can be swapped onto this motor.

I would do some more research into using the existing block before exploring engine swaps.

Swaps get real expensive real fast.

yeah only two injectors on the TBI models, i have already replaced the stock head with the non-jet head, and im pretty sure the eclipse heads wont match unless you have the jap 2.0L engine most all the ones here in the states are the 2.6L, yes im also a member of starquest to. anything to do with this car is expensive im really just thinking of selling it and getting a bike
