Well looks like my S5 water pump housing is cracked, which was going to be used in my cosmo swap.
I was planning in putting an FD system in later but I might as well do it now. Does anyone know if the Cosmo 13B alternator has the same dimension and pulley offset as the FD alternator. I notice that when testing, the FD water pump housing is much thicker than the cosmo and FC. Definitely will need to get longer studs for the water pump housing to slide in? Any one have a part number and anywhere else to get them besides the mazda dealer. I also will probably need the main pulley from the FD. Any thoughts? |
we did a swap using a cosmo engine, with an fd water pump assembly, and i think it used the cosmo alternator, with fd serp belts.
i think the cosmo alternator fits in place of the fd one, cosmo uses the serp belt like the fd. n3a1-10-c08 is the part number for the fd water pump housing studs, they are the same but longer. hmmm i think that kinda covers it? |

Yes, thanks. So only 4 long studs, no long bolts like the FC has? FC seems to have 4 studs and 4 long bolts.
THat the setup I want to run. I see that's the stock power steering pump but is that a custom power steering braket or ....? Is what pulley is on it? Cosmo or FD? Please tell me more info, that's the setup I want to run. Thanks |
stock ps pump, fd ps/ac bracket (forget why), fd ps pulley

stock ps pump, fd ps/ac bracket (forget why), fd ps pulley Makes sense. the FD main pulley is thick, the offset is going to be greater. Will i need the FD idler too? Thanks C PS You would know where I can see the parts manual for the FD only. I only have the FC parts catalog |

yeah you need the fd idler. UNLESS the cosmo pulley lets you run the serp alt belt, and a v belt for the ps |

UNLESS the cosmo pulley lets you run the serp alt belt, and a v belt for the ps Thanks, I went to the dealership and ordered studs and the bolts for the water pump pulley. About 20 bucks. Went to mazdatrix and got the water pump, thermostat and gaskets. I got the main pulley, water pump pulley and ac/ps bracket used and on their way. All I'm missing is the idler pulley and the ps pump pulley. PS. You know anywhere to order the cosmo primary fuel air bleeds? Mazdatrix looked at the FD and they were different. |
What about the throttle cable? FC turbo, FC na, or FD?

if you put the 20b with na fc throttle cable you get like 70% throttle without some tweakage |
im pretty sure the fc waterpump is just 3 studs and 1 long bolt. and the long bolt is only there because thats where the alternator adjustment bracket mounts.
the other bolts hold the waterpump to the housing and thats just so you can change just the waterpump without swapping out the whole housing. oh and theyre all just regular easy to find threads, you could convert whatever to all 4 bolts or all 4 studs with a little bit of shopping...i have a feling mazda oem will be expensive, but maybe theyre stronger or something. figur eit couldnt be more then grade 8. kevin. |
This engine should be in the car by next weekend. Finally.

Mike, did you have to do alot of modifications. I found out the hard way, I will post pics later. I had to make some holes bigger then make a notch for the pump to fit on the side. I even cut the pump, the found out the hard way that a no no. lol The hard part is having the throttle body compression tube fit. Will an FD elbow work? Carlos |
