looking for recommendations on hardware
as im preparing to remove the motor off my fd... engine stand - is there a universal stand thatll work with a 13b or will i still be required to purchase an adapter... engine hoist - air assisted...manual pump...adjustable boom |
I think you need an adapter on the engine stand for the rotary. Pineapple Racing sells one.
I couldn't get one in time, so I just worked on the engine on the ground. Some people put it on crates. As for the hoist, I rented one from Ace Hardware. They're all pretty much the same. You can find some nice ones that fold up and stuff. Try www.harborfreight.com I think they sell both the hoist and engine stand. |
My hoist is the most bare bone manual pump one you can get and it worked just fine. This was for an sr20 into a 240sx during the summer. Something I found very useful was a leveler to adjust the "angle of attach." This was only because I removed and installed the engine and transmission together which is the easy way if you have to do both anyway.

thanks
will be pickin up the adapter from pineapple.. mazdatrix sells one as well.. ive got the hoist and the stand mapped out.. lookin to remove the motor along with the tranny as well.. ill pick up the leveler as suggested... dismantling to start right after the holidays... |
why are you pulling the engine ? pm me if you want. you can borrow my hoist if you need it!!
|
I got the engine stand from harbor frieght. You don't need the plate from Pineapple racing. I mounted mine up to the plate that came with the stand.
The stand cost me about $50. |
I have a pretty smooth engine stand. It has a handle with internal gears that allow me to swing the engine around by just simply turning the handle 360 degrees. I didn't need to adapters either. Just bolted right up to the plate.

questions...
can you provide manufacturer info ? seems like you have to provide additional support for it from the pic... precautionary measures on your part? or are they not rated for the weight bolts to the front housing correct....did u use hardened bolts ? |
I use bothe types of mounting. I have a pineapple plate and I bolt them directly to the head. The pineapple plate allow installation of th CAS and access to that area of the engine for detailing / painting. Is it neccasary? NO, Is it nice to have? Hell Yes!!!!!

My stand
I wanted to get a stand, but I thought it wouldn't work w/o the adapter. I guess the adapter lets you mount it vertically which is good if you are doing rebuild or whatever. |
You engine stand matches you engine BTW. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/cool.png

It might even be the same stand, Snap On, Matco, and Mac tools all sell other manufactures stuff and they just re-label it.

Like thier buffing machines and spray guns, I remember a guy I worked with bought a Snap On buffer, it was a Black and Decker Buffmaster re-tagged.
Some stupid little hand tools I buy from the tool guys are the same ones sold in local auto parts stores, for example, I had to buy a new inspection/registration sticker scraper, I got it from the Snap On guy, meanwhile this weekend I go to The local Carquest auto parts store and they have the identical one for half the cost, oh well, live and learn. At least with the tool guys you can pay stuff off and get the tool right away! |

I'm currently in the process of removing my 12a, but keeping the tranny in, has anyone had experience with doing it this way? I had it all unbolted ready to go (or so I thought) then realized it wasn't parting from the tranny. I've left it till tomorrow, but I think its because of 2 bolts within the torque converter. They seem like they are going to be really hard to get to as well. Behind that big metal cog.
Any ideas? Previous exp? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif |

I got tha mazdatrix adapter, it worked great in my $40 engine stand... I like how it makes the pivot point pretty much the center of the engine side.
