I've got two cars with 13Bs, so I haven't really looked at a 12A much. I've got a friend that wants to put a rotary in his kit car and he bought a Kennedy Engineered adapter plate off of ebay. Trouble is he doesn't know if it fits a 12A or 13B. Are the bell housings the same or different. What about the clutch/pressure plate/flywheel? I know that to use a 13B intake manifold you have to use an adapter, but does anything else fit?
What about the '93-95 RX7? Kennedy Engineered told him that that engine is different than the '86-92 13B? |
All the bell housing bolt patterns are the same as for the the flywheel the SE(84-85)13B uses the same size flywheels but the clutch is a little different.With that adapter you should be able to make any 12a,13b combo work tho.Just remember that the turbos run a larger flywheel and clutch setup so it can get tricky if you want to run a stocker setup.You can run the NA setup on the turbo engine but I think you need the NA's counterwieght.Hope this helps

Well turbos get a larger flywheel if they are using the turbo tranny.
So it all depends on the tranny what size flywheel it can hold and use. Your best bet is getting the appropiate rear counterweight for engine year/or type (12a, 13b) and getting a universal or custom flywheel to just bolt on to the counterweight. Would also depend on the adapter and how it works wiht the starter and clucth folk |
the bellhousing bolt pattern is the same from 74-2002

Note 89+ used an electronic oil metering pump, so if you switch to carb or standalone, you will need to premix oil in the tank like a 2 stroke.
