So here is some back story. I was able to get my hands on a wrecked FC that had frame damage. The engine is in good condition and I was able to yank it out. I plan on doing a bridgeport and it already has the single turbo conversion.

Now fast forward to last week where I was able to get a FD for dirt cheap. Now my question is how do I drop in the FC motor into the FD. I've found that I need to swap the rear housing as that is where the motor mounts sit.

Is there anything else?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Eventually the motor in the FD will get bridgeported also but that is later down the line.

Thanks,

question what are you gonna do with the fc?

From what I know about doing an REW swap into an FC, you will need the FD oil pan to seal the mounting holes on the stock FC engine mount (on the center iron), depending on engine management you may need to use the FD's front cover and electronics, I know that the FC CAS is not compatible with an FD based engine management system. And if you're going to swap the rear iron from an FD to use the stock FD's mounts, you'll have to make sure that the front iron is ported to match. You may have problems lining up an intake manifold, but I don't know that for sure.

Generally, Id say its an all around bad idea. Sell the fc and put it towards a proper 13B-REW for the 3rd gen. Its nowhere near as simple as swapping a rear housing. The intake ports are dramatically different, and all 3 irons need to match. And theres another 2 dozen issues that will come up. Just dont do it.

i would just put the money into an rew id had the idea of doing that in my fd, but after thinking about how much frustration it would be to get that 13b in there its better off just to spend the extra coin and build a nice rew

I agree with mazdaspeed7 and 93FD. A good 13b-REW will run between 2k and 5k, depending on the source, condition, etc. Depending on the extent of the damage to the FC, you could probably part that out and be at least halfway, if not more, to a good REW.

Did the FD come with an engine? If so, there are a few companies out there that will take the core and send you a rebuilt engine with almost anything done to it that you want.
