Hi

i see there is a long tread on a 20b swap . I have a simple question for you , what gear box do you use in the swap ? Does the 13b and the 20b have the same bolt patern ?

Also does anyone know if there is an adapter plate to take a 13b ( or 20b ) to a toyota 5 speed gearbox ?

Thanks

They have the same bolt pattern. The HITman used a Toyota 5 speed with his 3 rotor: http://www.hitman.hm/rx7.htm . I'm sure that whatever adapter he used was custom made. Some people use a Richmond 5 speed with 700 HP 13B's--$1800 from Summitt, but requires custom bellhousing adapter and driveshaft, etc.

Oops, I forgot. He has a home made 3 rotor, but he IS using the Toyota transmission.

Rather than go all exotic with a 3 rotor to get a measly 280 hp. Why not join 2 13BT Motors together?

4 rotor

It's a shame that he didn't go further with it.

Yes but who goes through the pain of doing a 20B and sits with only 280 hp? I don't know of anyone doing that. You might as well put in a V8 for a 10th or more the cost for those HP numbers...even though it'd sound like junk https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

There are many other gearboxes that will work but the popular ones I know of are the HKS 6 speed ~$9K. A T-56 with custom gears ~$2-5 depending upon HP level, a TT Supra ~$9K with full conversion.

Keep in mind that if you go with a different gearbox (which you have to BTW with much above 400HP), you will have to do a custom bellhouse adapter, custom driveshaft, most likely a LSD as well, and much larger wheels than stock. I hear something like 315 series tires in the back are necessary to get some grip.

What did you decide to go with?

Haven't gotten that far with the project yet... I will run the stock LSD and gearbox for what's left of the summer when the car gets done because the motor and turbo are new, I won't be pounding on the car anyhow. If it breaks... oh well, it was going to be replaced anyhow.

Next springs' project is to most likely do a T-56, Titanium hardened gears, custom driveshaft/bellhousing adapter, and a local shop's custom LSD that specializes in high HP rear ends for hot rods. We will also be cryogenically dipping some of the parts such as the LSD housing, etc, to achieve additional structural integrity.

However...things always change when you actually start the project so that's just the concept currently.

Are you sticking with the twin turbos?
