Guys,
Don't know where to post this. I did a search and nothing came up. I want to put an oil baffle on the 13b re Cosmo. Does any make one or do i have to make my own? Any other performance parts available for the 13b re Cosmo, I'm getting my tax return check soon https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.gif C https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif |

most likley it will be DIY That's why what I'm thinking. It looks very close to the FC. Hello homedepot.... |
I notice that the stock 13b cosmo oil pan has a small sorta oil baffle by the rear oil regulator.
See pic. Hmm is it worth making a baffle and making it work with this thing. What do you guys think? Carlos |
What is your intended use of the car?
|
Will see track time a least once a month depending on money. Track and Auto-X with the occasional commute to work unless is hot, took out the A/C.
|
Well here is a home version starting up. Not yet finished. My drill ran out of power. Will continue tomorrow.

Not really familiar with rotaries, but make sure that the oil is able to get back to the pickup easily enough. When I was baffling my piston engine, I oversized the hole for the pickup - the baffle is only really used a few inches from the sump's edges anyway so make sure you don't shoot yourself in the foot.
This may all be pointless if the rectangle in your pic is the only return feed, but I thought I'd mention it anyways. |

The pickup tube is the long thing. The big hole is there to slide thru it and clear the flange on the engine. The end of the pickup tube sit under the baffle, emerged in the oil in the deep part of the oil pan. The rotaries have 2 regulators, front and rear. The front will just drop directly into the oil pan thru the square hole. The rear regulator is the basically the main puppy which has the most flow pumping out. This is the one with the I will add another hole for the dip stick and maybe another one for good luck. I"m going to look at some different designs and copy that pattern. The question is, I guess I will cut 2 small line for that thing in the rear, see oil pan pic 2. It should be ok if I do that. |
Almost done. Any comments...

Looks good, it's not a complicated process. That pic makes it looks like steel which reminds me - keep an eye on it because I've seen baffles with cracks in them from vibrations etc. Probably wouldn't be good to get chunks of metal in your sump.
|
Its zinc steel but is very flexible, like 18 or 23 guage, can't remember. Should be ok right, got it from home depot.

I went to the metal supply store and got some aluminum sheet metal. It was cheaper than and bigger than the piece I got at home depot. Well I'll take a another pic when I take it apart today. I don't have my head together. I forgot about upgrading the rear regulator so is coming out again. I'm getting good at this oil pan thing. I think I almost got the right amount of sealant and torque to use. LOL C |
mines just a pic from the RB website, which is a copy of the mazda factory baffle....
|
Every thing is in, Aluminum baffle now, some good stuff / import color.
I also put in a modified FC oil pressure regulator. I tried to put back just like the RE one with one of the whole facing down. This one almost made it to the down position, can't tighten it more to turn it. Is like 45 degree off from complete down, is that ok? Carlos |
