ok i know that the haltech program wont work straight up with windows xp, but is it possible to use it by booting to a floppy with it on there or a cd? by like using a windows 95 boot disk? im gonna have to figure out a solution to this sooner or later and i wanna look at the haltech datalog mike posted...so solutions?

g_dripht-alex 02-10-2004 04:45 PM

well i just remember i downloaded the compaq compatiable haltech e6k programmer and i can view everything just fine...but can i pull datalogs from my haltech with XP? or doi have to do something else.

So let me get this straight...you wonder if it will work off a cd or floppy without being on the hard drive while in the car? I believe it will, seems like I did that one time. Second, you wonder if you can pull up datalogs while in XP? I can pull up datalogs on my computer with XP, so you no reason why you can't.

i can datalogs no prob now, what i meant was can i go in live mode by booting to a windows 95 boot disk? i know i worded that all stupidly worded.

Ahh, well i'm not really certain about a boot 95 disk.

pengaru 02-14-2004 02:25 PM

if you make a 95 boot disk you should be able to run the e6k.exe program successfully... any of the dos based systems boot disks will work, 95, 98, msdos, drdos, etc.

What about the haltech software doesn't work in XP? Granted I only have the software to mess around with (downloaded the wolf, microtech and others also). So far it has worked with both of my XP systems, but it doesn't actually have to communicate with a ECU.

the problem in xp is actually getting the software to connect to the haltech.......it will say no haltech found

Try booting XP normally then find the e6k.exe, right click on it and go to the properties. Run in Windows 95 compatibility mode.

This works for me when running games that aren't XP compatible.

The compatibility mode won't work with Haltech software. Go to this link and download the dos disks.

tweakit

You just download the file, put it on a floppy and boot from the floppy. It will automatically load the EK6.exe file on startup and you're off and running.

Do what I did. I got an old laptop off of ebay for 150. It came with Windows 95 on it.

if you are running off a floppy or anything but the hard drive isn't there a issue with saving maps or settings?

Rob x-7 12-20-2005 10:44 PM

I believe you can now get an updated version. I downloaded one from haltech.com and it seemed to run fine on my P4 Dell.
