Ok, I'm work and bored, as usual, so I'm looking at options for an ECU for when I put the new motor in the SE-X. I'm looking at Haltech, GReddy "E"manage, and APEXi powerFC....which one would you all recommend for a street/drag car w/ roughly 400 to 500 HP? Any other ECU I should look into?

13BAce 06-19-2002 04:54 PM

The Greddy isn't a standalone, and the PFC is only available for FD's in the U.S. Both the Haltech and Wolf work with the stock ignition. The Electromotive TEC 3 is good, but it requires more custom work, and it costs alot more.

Rotaryman88 06-19-2002 05:25 PM

I was gonna ask you where you got the wolf, I just wanted to read a little on it and see what its all about. I thought you could use the PowerFC on the 2nd gens...hmmm maybe the FCon is what i'm thinking of, lol...dunno

Yeah, The F-CON is made by HKS. It's a piggyback system. You can get information on the Wolf 3D V3 at http://www.wolfems.com/Products/EMS/Wolf_3...3D/wolf_3d.html . Information on the Wolf 3D V4 is at http://www.wolfems.com.au/wolf_3d_page.html . I may get rid of my Wolf 3D V3 if I wind up going with a 20B because it won't do a trailing split on a 3 rotor. :(

Rotaryman88 06-19-2002 06:18 PM

I think I'll just go Haltech...just gotta decide on what kind and learn more about it, lol...

Rotaryman88 06-19-2002 06:32 PM

I just read the HITMAN site on haltechs installation...considering I'm a Cisco certified networker and have good wiring skills...I feel I should be able to accomplish it. I think I'll go w/ the Haltech E6S system....

The E6K is newer and better than the E6S.

I would go with the Haltech. (Money was an issue for me... so I didn't have much choice) but it is a great unit and the support has been AWESOME. Yahoo Groups have a couple of HALTECH Forums, one purely for Haltech Equipped Rotaries.

I would like to see their HALWIN software, which is long overdue. People have loaded DOS on their WINCE devices and run the Haltech Dos on their handhelds. This is fine, but I tried it and not being able to point and click is a pain. It's much easier from a laptop.

My motor fired up the first time (well after I switched my fuel lines around, I got them backwards).

What did you wind up doing with those new injectors?

Rotaryman88 06-19-2002 07:13 PM

That's my other question...I'm gonna need a laptop for the Haltech aren't I? What kind of operating system does it use? DOS? that's scary, lol...what are my options as far as tuning the haltech on a laptop...can I use something like a desktop maybe?

You can adjust your maps with a desktop, but you can't do real-time tuning with it unless you have it in the car. Pretty much any kind of laptop will work, as long as it's like a 286 or higher. I like my Wolf because I can adjust everything with the handheld controller. Tuning while driving can be tricky, but you get used to it after a while.

Rotaryman88 06-19-2002 07:34 PM

Good...I didn't want to go out and buy a $3K laptop, lol...I'll just buy one from my employer...the company has like 40 of 'em laying around, lol. They usually sell them off to those auction things for like $500... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

You can just buy a cheap one for $100-200. That should be fine.

Rotaryman88 06-19-2002 07:51 PM

laptop for $100/$200? where at, lol? The cheapest I've seen is like $400..

Check online classifieds and e-bay.

dac 06-19-2002 10:04 PM

The injectors are still in there, but I bought another used set that should be on the way. The guy said he just took them out a month ago. Once I have them I will check into sending the old ones to RC.

I'd like to paint my intake and alternator, so this gives me an excuse to do that. Not sure I will... but I would like to.

As for the laptop. I use a 486 (color screen) in DOS mode. I leave it in the car all the time. It works pretty welland it plugs into the lighter plug for power. I have a nice 1.2 gig laptop with Windows 2000 on it but the 486 in DOS mode actually loads the haltech data faster. The Screen isn't as nice, but it works well.

turborotor 06-28-2002 12:43 PM

All you need is dos and 4 mb of ram, lol a 286 should do fine with a serial port. I"m fine with the dos program, it works and get the job done.

vosko 06-28-2002 02:33 PM

i need to designate one of my laptops for the haltech https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

TonyTurboII 07-01-2002 02:28 PM

I hope my Laptop isnt an overkill for the Haltech.

You can get the Power FC for the 2G RX7 from Japan. Plug and play.

You're better off with the Haltech. It's a bunch of crap that you need special software, etc. for the PFC.

all you need is the datalogit box. dave didn't want to rewire the whole car so he went PFC. now he feels special https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif
