Getting ready to install a Power FC and Commander this weekend. I don’t think that I will have to adjust the base map much with the exception of the fuel duty cycle. I have an aggressive street porting job on the engine, a free-flow intake, and a Racing Beat cat-back exhaust. What would you estimate to be a good fuel duty cycle? I would rather err on the rich side. I can always cut it back later if I find it is running too rich.



As a side question, I would like to ask where you guys are mounting your commanders. I am also installing a turbo timer and a boot controller. I am trying to figure out where I am going to put all of these devices. I have a good idea where to install everything else – but the commander is going to be quite a challenge I think.

the power fc has a 20x20 grid with 400 blocks of information... In order to tune you need to be able to modify information in a LARGE # of these blocks as your car sweeps threw them so ther is no set fuel duty cycle as you state. If you don't have any tunning exp. then you should really look for sombody who does or go to a good shop to have it tunned. paying sombody $300-500 is much much cheaper than blowing the engine... Sounds like a good plan. I suppose the best bet would be to install the other stuff first, then take the PFC to a shop and have them install & tune. I don’t really have much tuning experience at all. I suppose you could tell that from the stupid question. But, I am a real stickler about how things are installed in my car. I want the job done right. The only way I have be able to assure myself of that is to do the job. I just don’t know whom I can trust to do good work. There are lots of places that will do half-assed work and take your money. I don’t want to end up in that situation either.



Setting up the PFC sounded so much easier than you explained when I was reading the Commander programming instructions. I was also told that it would start with a base map for the FD3S and run a diagnostics on the car while tuning itself. Process is supposed to take about 30min. Then you can use the commander to tweak the settings. Is this totally wrong or is there some truth in this?



Thanks for the idea about the commander mounting. I will certainly look into that possibility. I was also thinking about mounting it where the ashtray is. I am not sure this will work – but I am looking into that as another possibility.

Mounting:



I wouldn't mount it in the ashtray. It seems like a logicle place at first, but you want to be able to glance at it while driving. Looking in the direction of the ashtray while driving is not that easy.



I bought an aluminum holder from sleddriver. I mounts to the dash next to the radio, is angled towards the driver, and works very well. You may want to PM him and see if he still has some. There is a link to his site somewhere further down in the ECU discussions.



Minor tweaks with the commander are possible, but I have come to realize I need a wideband O2 and the datalogit software.

Yeah, I would have to agree. Guess I was looking for a nice flush mount and that seem like the only place I could do it without having to carve up the dash to badly. Don’t really want to do that. I will look into fashioning an aluminum holder. I’m pretty sure I can do that myself.



Do you know of a good place to get the datalogit software? I couldn’t get it from the place I bought the PFC and the commander.



You think I could install the PFC and use the commander to increase the fuel duty cycle for a temporary fix till I can get it to a shop to have it professionally tuned? The car doesn’t have to run at optimal performance. I just want to be sure that I am not going to hurt anything in the meantime. It will be a week of “to and from work” driving followed by a 4-hour drive to the nearest rotary performance shop. This way I could mount and wire the thing the way I want it before I take it to the shop to have it tuned.

Yea, the only thing the PFC learns is how to idle and that's it.. everything else needs to be tunned for what you have.. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png Make sure you have them turn the fans on at a lower temp with they are at it.. I like 87 for fan 1 and 89 for fan 2..

Yeah, thanks, I wouldn't have even known to ask. Please feel free to open the floodgates on your PFC tuning knowledge. Every little bit will help. I am absolutely sure of it.

#1 buy a datalogit

#2 then get on the datalogit mailing list and yahoo group

#3 ask lots of questions, but do this after you go threw the saved messages in the yahoo groups page. Lots of good info in there and lots of maps that would probably work well with your combination of tunning parts..

#4 go to the power fc forum areas of here and the evil forum.
