im looking into picking up a knock system of them because i dont want another blown engine and i want to do my own tuning..the two im looking into is the msd ignition Engine Knock Alert system and the obvious one the J&S SAFEguard which retards timing which im not interested in, i just need to monitor the knocking..the msd says It will work on 4, 6 and 8-cylinder engines with 12 volt electrical systems and comes complete with the sensor, adapter and controller.

if worst comes to worst i'll pick up the j&s but can i use the msd knock control?

i have a egt gauge already and going to get wideband

i should have brand new engine and a ems within 9 months

well, where does the j&s mount there knock sensors?im guessing ithe msd would get mounted in the same place

I thought knock was to be avoided at all costs on a rotary. From what I've heard even a little knock can destroy the apex seals on a 13b. This right? I'm new to rotaries.

Kevin

they can take a little, but the biggest problem is how do you tell? how do you know if you are running on the ragged edge vs safe?

with a good ear and/or a knock sensor

Dynamite Kid.......I was under the impression you were getting a Power FC. If so then the stock knock sensor will give you a knock reading. In my experience it works pretty good.

If you want to connect another system in addition to that It could be useful though maybe to comapre the two readings. The S5 block has a threaded receptacle for the stock sensor on the Front and rear rotor housings as well as the center Iron. You could probably use those locations to connect additional knock sensors

hmm...with the price of the msd knock sensor,i can afford to monitor both housings ontop of keeping the stock knock sensor that will be controlled with the power fc https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683329.gif

Thanks again Ranzo
