Hope some of you on this board who knows about this stuff can help me out a little.



I have a '93 FD automatic. The car was having idling/stalling problems and stuff so I took it in to a local rotary place and got it fixed. They installed a new fuel injector and O2 sensor. etc...



It runs 'fine' for now, but I think theres a problem with the ECU. I researched and saw that the early '93 models had a bad ECU that caused the car to have stalling and timing problems.



The car doesn't 'pick up' at a stop. It feels like its in 2nd gear or sumthin...It takes it a second or so before the speed kicks in and gets going (especially with the AC on)....its really annoying me...



My mechanic told me that the timing is off by a second or two and its the ECU.



What can i do? Is there any aftermarket ECU i can get that will fix this problem?



I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem, since I've read on the forums about others having this same problem with idling and stalling...



Anyways hope you can give me some advice. Its a shame that I can't drive it to its full potential because of this timing lag or whatever...





Also, any recommendations for anyone around the LA area that can do some reliabilty mods for me? Looking to install an aluminum radiator, aluminum AST tank, check/change vacuum hoses and get rid of the cat and install the downpipe. I'm new to the FD and this is what I've been told to do that will help the engine stay healthy.

The slowness off the line is due to it being an automatic turbo car. No matter what you do to it, its always going to be a dog off the line. Call your local Mazda deal, and have them run your vin # to see if all the recalls have been done. I think the ECU was one of them.



What is your rpm at idle? It should be steady somewhere between 750-900rpm. I can't remember if the auto idle is 750 or 900. Do you have a boost gauge? If so, what is the vacum at idle and how is your boost pattern?



As for upgrading the ECU, you don't have much of a choice. The automatic has to use the stock ECU to control the Hold function. So any standalone ECU will not work correctly. I have heard of mating the the Stock ECU with a standalone, but I was not able to figure that out. Your best bet is to go with a piggyback system like the EFI aka Peter Ferrell Supercars PMC.



If you have high expectations for the car, look into doing the auto to manual swap. By far the best thing I have done to my car.

Thanks for the advice bro. I would do all the mods myself, but to tell ya the truth. I pretty much SUCK at this kinda stuff and besides I really don't have the time to do it. I work 2 jobs and go to school also, that and the fact that I don't have the right tools makes it pretty hard for me to do the mods.



So anyways, if anyone out there can give me a recommendation on who to seek out to do these reliabilty mods (aluminum radiator, AST tank, vacuum hoses, downpipe, etc...), let me know. I live in LOS ANGELES. My email address is NSX1Day@aol.com
