Johnathon of 454 Dyno in New Orleans responded to my email about the tuning parameters of the Mustang dyno. I asked because I see that people say "thats Dynjet numbers or that is this other Dyno " and we are extrapolate what HP and torque should really be by understanding some read off a little.

As a laymen while the NO club was doing tunning I remmember them saying the Mustang can be used to better tune by doing something ...... so

Here was something that I did not know and thought to pass it on.If its allready been discussed my apologies.

"well its good to hear that your motor is comming together. it should

be pretty sick with the kind of port your running! ok tunning on our dyno is better because you can tune it not only for WOT but you can tune it for drivablity and part throdle (your whole RPM rang). reason being is, our dyno is an EDDY CURRENT or LOAD testing dyno (wich means it can simulate road and wind resistance for any amount of time and at speeds of up to 200mph. or at a constant speed). it dose this with very larg magnets that "load" the rollers of the dyno. so insted of just doing some computerized multiplication that is really guessing at your rwhp numbers like other dynos do (like a dyno jet) our dyno is giving you your REAL rwhp. I could bore you some more but I'll stop for now. basicly what I'm trying to say is that with our dyno you can tune through the intire rpm range instead of just the final hp number at peak rpm (wich we can do too). and if you have any other questions let me know. THANKS

that dyno lets you set the load and speed. so say you wanted to run 3000rpm, and tune the whole throttle range at that rpm, you can

i think you can do 1/4 mile runs on it too?

Yup you can. It kinda sucks though, it will give you a pretty good MPH, but think about what would happen if you launched your car on the rollers. It can simulate various road course too.

It sucks that people are so hung up on DynoJet numbers that the Mustang dynos are overlooked too much.

One reason DynoJet is so popular is that is much cheaper than a Mustang dyno, thus shops tend to buy the cheaper dyno. I love playing on a Mustang dyno, but its hard to pass up nearly free dyno time, on a DynoJet.

No such thing as "better"...

Even the MD literature stopped short of saying their's is better (than DynoJet).

Each has it's advantages, and it's the capabilities of the tuner that can get the most out of dyno tuning.

yes, the MD is by far better for tuning.. but the RWHP and TQ #'s are way off on everyone that i've seen used. I've seen a bone stock mustang gt dyno at about 200 rwhp and 600+ tq. Also saw an intergra make over 450 TQ. For my experience with them, the RWHP is always low and the TQ is always high on a mustang dyno.

Dynojets have more accurate #'s from what i've seen... but good luck trying to tune anything other than WOT.

That being said, my 20B is being tuned on a mustang dyno and after that i'll do a #'s run on a dynojet just to see how healthy the engine is as a future baseline.

Apex13B 07-21-2005 06:56 PM

any engine dyno can do that. Its called "waypoint tuning"

Funny? My Dynojet has load control(eddy current) and when I looked at Mustang they were the cheaper dyno as far as price. From a business standpoint I am glad I went the way I did. It does everything the mustang does, and no-one doubts the numbers.
