with my car as it was before my dp and exhaust mods (ghetto cutout...) my car ran with no launch a 13.1@111 on bfg drags. now with my good friend driving and new clutch he cut a 13.8 at the strip with the same mods except clutch was different.



is it me or is my car slower than it was before? or is it the driver switch

?



im going to be running my car at the track myself before the 23rd to try n cut my best time. im aiming for low 12's to high 11's. it doesnt seem my car reacts that different from strip to street but by the time ill go to the strip ill finally have a new radiator n all...



what gives here? is mine faster on the street or is it the driver? my friend has a LOT of expierence with manual turbo cars and usually can drive better than i can with most cars.

how are you measuring the time on the street?

g-tec of course, i know theyre not the most accuate but theyre some what good for measuring ets on the street.

you need to psuedo-calibrate the gtech by having your friend run it at the strip with the gtech in the car, and compare the times... then you can use the difference as a rough correction factor when you run on the street. It will be a bit better for comparison purposes but still not perfect.

i broke the g-tec before we went out to union grove, so we couldnt do that. i got it working now again so ill try it next time i forget to wear pants so i can drive on the strip myself (i wore shorts)....

yeh he was the good ol' driver of my car sence he knows just how to beat on a car to make it go. ill bring pants next time.

the first time i went to the track i wore shorts. I had to buy a pair of 15 buck sweatpants!

At the track you spend some time waiting in line while your car gains intake temperature. This is because the car isn't in motion and it heat soaks, and particularly so if you have a stock intercooler. The hotter your intake temperature the lower your times will be. 1/4 mile speed at the track is calculated by averaging the speed between two beams at the end of the 1/4 mile which are 60ft apart.



By comparison if you drive out on a cool day cruising with minimal stop and go trafic, then stop to do a gtech meter run your car is likely to not be heat soaked for your first run. Your performance will be better than at the track. The gtech 1/4 mile speeds are the result of a time distance formula over the entire 1/4 mile distance. Gtech meter 1/4 mile speed will be slightly higer than at the track.



The gtech meters are very accurate and consistent. I've had mine for years and have used it in everything from my Toyota Tacoma, buddies MR2, 911 turbo, and my FDs. Here's a link to the basic model gtech meter for those that may not be familiar with the product. The new model is even better.
