[quote name='Cheers!' date='Jul 20 2005, 08:15 AM']Atleast you are doing it while u have a current job. Try doing that with credit card bils and student loans galore and just graduating out of university.

Where are you at school, and which discipline? The best advice I can give for job hunting is to start very early. I was hired at GM by November of my last year. Have your resume ready to go in September for sure.

Agreed. Don't sit on your ass either. Go out there and actually work at getting a job. It wasn't until I did that more severely that I got my current job.

Oh... get things in writing a verbal acknoledgement has as much weight as paper in space. F'ing OPG pricks, polaris, and altair.

As a side note since you are taking engineering.

You know how my sig reads, "I thought in engineering they teach you to design and build cool ****. It was a lie..."

well the reason why they don't teach you that is because... YOU DON'T GET TO DO THAT COOL **** when you graduate. You push F'ing papers around...

:(

I agree with Cheers.

Also school does not teach you that your principals and morals will cost you a promotion or your job! You will understand corporate policies and lies and more lies.

Do not go into any "I know everything since I went to school" attitude when your'e in a production floor. specially unionize environment.

i'm going to school at university of ottawa, taking computer engineering.

yeah, i have heard from quite a few people it's all about looking for jobs early because it can take some time...

sitting at a desk pushing papers is something that i wouldn't like to do but i know that's what happens to most. it's wierd, engineers don't actually engineer things, they just tell other people how to do it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

i'm liking my summer job term right now though, with atomic energy canada.

although they don't trust me to do anything important, there is a lot of cool **** up here and lots of expensive equipment.

i got to go into the active area earlier today, which requires going through a bomb sniffer, then a metal detector, then a card id scan, then you put your hand on a biometrics scanner, lol.

the branch manager talked to me a few weeks back, and asked me to consider working here when i graduate. i think i have a very good chance of doing that, just don't know if i want to try for something else...meh, i don't think i can be so picky about it, take what you get i guess. and the pay is good.

maybe i just don't like the idea of staying here for 40 years in the middle of nowhere...i'm the only rx-7 around, haha

Right on right on... 2 things to keep in mind. The company cares not about you. You are replaceable. Get in, get all you can grab, and move on.

The second part, about the attitude, is very important. When you do get your ring, pay attention to the cerimony. Not that I'm biased or anything, but UW engineers get that attitude kicked out of them in their first couple co-ops, which is why they rule over all other engineers.
